Which distros have you tried? My experience was rough at first when I finally cut Windows out of my life a year ago. I'm on a ASRock B450M with a Ryzen 3600 and a 2070 Super. Started with Ubuntu > Mint > Debian > and finally settled on Pop_OS, and things have been rock solid. Most recently installed Cosmic desktop on another drive and even the 5th Alpha is playing Steam and Heroic games with few issues.

Yeah, they updated it. Just opened my app and it has the Featured section.
Gauntlet is a pretty easy going dungeon crawl game, otherwise for crafting/exploration my wife and I had a blast with Don't Starve Together.
This makes me so sad that Aperion received the cease and desist. This game really deserves a fan-made resurrection. I never felt like any legitimate company would do it justice.
Funny you should mention that series. I did just that and raced through books 1-5. I got to Lord of Chaos and was burned out at that point...might be time to revisit.
I'm in the rural Midwest, USA. I live in a small village about an hour from my office building. I'm mostly work from home, but when I do drive in, traffic is light, the road was recently resurfaced, and the driftless scenery never gets old.
On the plus side, it gives me two hours to listen to my current audiobook. I tend to err on the positive side and look forward to my commute; glass half-full.
If you don't have internet, you're never getting updates in the first place! Unless you mean, you updated, are sitting at this screen, THEN lose your network connection.
What if the banging was them trying to crack the window to avoid suffocating?
I know not all hardware is created equal, but my two cents are now that Valve has planted themselves squarely In the mobile Linux world, they'll continue to pace the way on innovation and I wouldn't be surprised if larger organizations continue to drive improvement. There's no way they would just let that die. Linux gaming is going to have staying power.
