The steam version is from steam, downloaded from steam and installed via steam. I have tried running it with multiple versions of Proton and Proton-GE to varying degrees of success. It either runs at a single digit frame rate, crashes on start up, or if it manage to get it running okay, it also cannot save.

The version I have installed currently is the fitgirl repack. I downloaded before we started troubleshooting, I had downloaded and installed it on a previous install of mint (I had to wipe that and install again due to me encrypting the home folder and that causing issues. Since then I redownloaded the sims4 FG repack. I installed it for the first time on this install of mint yesterday. Having the same issue with saving as I had on the last install of mint. That time however I used a guide from reddit that was very convoluted compared to how I installed it yesterday.

The current install of TS4 is in /home/user_name/Games/the-sims-4-lutris/drive_c/Program Files/The Sims 4/Game/Bin/TS4_x64.exe I do not see a way to set the save folder. This was installed via Lutris, and I used this install location because the default when installing was Z:\Games\The Sims 4, but doing so fails. Which is why I have it in c:.

I am wondering if I create the directory first if that will work.

Edit: read your post more carefully and see you gave me your path for install. I used that same path (roughly) still it is using c:\users\user_name\

Installation takes like 2+ hours, so it is working currently.

I had previously downloaded it. But I also get this error when I am able to get the Steam version running.

I had some time before game and got it to load. But I am getting the cannot save error again, which prevents me from actually entering the game.

I downloaded the file, but did not have a chance to open it yet.

Thanks, I run two d&d games today. I will try it when I get home.

I went to bed while it installed, woke up and it finally completed. When I launch either via the icon within lutris or the script in the desktop it gives me a language selection dialog, the sims 4 icon appears in the tray, I select the language and that is all it does. I am out hiking with my dog, I will copy the script contents when I get home.

I did that too, then i discovered i could log two computers into EverQuest and dual box.

There was no option for X:, and there was no program files in Z:, however C:\program files appears to be installing, 45 minutes to completion.

Firstly, THANK YOU for the lengthy support write up. I have been trying to make time to try some of your suggestions.

Firstly, I have been trying to run it with PROTON_USE_WINE3D=1 %command% --skip launcher thinking that was one command but having read your comment I realize there are two items in that. So I tried --skip launcher having read a lot of the issues with the game on Linux is the EA launcher. It almost started then I got a crash.

I also tried launching with mangohud and your command for that added to the skip launcher, that totally crashed Steam. I have been unable to download DXVK_HUD, I tried sudo apt install DXVK_HUD and searched software manager.

After mangohud crashed stream I had to restart the computer to get steam to open again.

I went back to PROTON_USE_WINE3D=1 %command% --skip launcher which has worked before, but that is what gave low frame rate, it launched but low frame rate. It also said it was unable to save.

I am trying different versions of proton ge, none of them are working, mostly giving the error screenshot I added above. And despite the skip launcher it still launches the EA launcher, which sometimes forces me to log in, other times it loads the game, and still others it opens the launcher fully and wants me to launch the game from there.

Everyone seems to agree, the problem is the EA launcher, and while I have the fitgirl repack, that removes the launcher, I cannot get it to install.

I managed to get the fitgirl repack installed through another suggestion, and it ran great... except it was unable to save. I thought maybe because it created the directory on install ands I needed to quit and restart. I could not get the game to launch again. The drive has been wiped with a fresh mint install (different issue, I chose to encrypt the home directory and it was causing issues).

So the laptop will play games!

I receive this error while running the setup.exe through lutris.

I also tried installing the version you can download through lutris which seems to only be a simsync app that never connects to anything.

Edit to add:

I own a small FLGS, i mean small. 1 employee, me. Sometimes my wife or son watch the places for me for a few hours. Small town too, <9,000 population.

I have had a player coming into the shop for about a year now, he was new to magic. He is one of those WAAC (Win At All Costs) players. He has recently decided he is no longer going to buy magic cards, only print them. A while back he asked me about doing this. I explained the difference between a proxy (when you own a card, but play with a fake because the card is valuable, or possibly damaged) and a counterfeit (you do not own the card, and play with a fake). It is against Wizards' rules for WPN/Play stores for us to allow counterfeit cards for any sanctioned event.

Tonight was my shop's first night hosting the new Two-Headed Giant Commander format. I was playing with a friend vs this guy and another customer. This guy was sitting diagonally from me (and my eyesight is not great) so i could not really see his cards. I cast something that allowed me to destroy up to two artifacts, so i was looking at his cards to decide what to destroy, when i realized every single card he had out was a fake.

When I kicked him out, he did the typical "but i buy a soda every week from you!" BFD, I make 50¢ off those, 75¢ if i get them on sale,

In almost 7 years of being open i have kicked out 3 players, and banned 2. This guy being the second ban, the first one shit himself and ruined a chair.

Years ago I built this table, while it is not the best work, it is the best table I have ever built.

It is very solid, the legs are 4x4s and the top 5 2x6s. The floor of my shop is wood, and normally it is only me moving the table. I stapled pieces of felt to the bottom of the feet, and they worked for a while but now are worn out.

I am looking for an idea of something to put on the feet to make it both easier to move across the floor, and keep the table from marring the floor.

I am thinking pieces of leather may work well. I have tried the plastic things that are supposed to make furniture glide, and they did not work at all.

This is Lenore, she was hit by a car 16 years ago. She had to have her skull and jaw wired together. She was blind in her right eye following the accident. I adopted her from my sister 11 years ago. She passed away 6 years ago, she was at least 16 at the time.

My wife has an old Lenovo i5 thinkpad that we would like to use again with linux, before buying a new computer. I was wondering if there is a tool that I can input the model and stats of the device and it will output a few suggested distros for it.

It is the X1 Carbon 20BT with the i5-5300U Processor, it has 8gb ram. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd100509-overview-for-thinkpad-x1-carbon-type-20bs-20bt

Update: I have installed mint xfce but am downloading cinnamon and switching to that.

Trying to cut down my vehicle usage, however my 75lbs dog comes to work with me every day. I live in an area that is too hot for her to walk with her feet unprotected a significant portion of the year.

I was hoping to convert my niece's old bike trailer into a dog trailer to pull behind. But so far the only two I have found were $1300 and $1500 and it looks like one of them is no longer available.

I recently started to play a crafting mmorpg (bitcraft) and while it runs great on the steam deck, the controls are not great. I have been playing with an old dell usb keyboard and Bluetooth trackball. I would like to find a great Bluetooth keyboard. So many of the wireless keyboards I have looked at require a dongle, which limits my ability to charge unless I use a dock.

I would rather a larger keyboard than a smaller one.

With the impending closure of lemm.ee and both of the current mods being MIA I created a new foraging community !foraging@slrpnk.net

Even Furiosa, my dog, is foraging.
