im still learning all this. but yeah having your own server could be easier. in my case the instance im on lemmy.one hasnt been affected at all by the beehaw thing. i can still see both. i see where the owners of beehaw are coming from i think, trying to stop the influx of unvetted user from sh.itjust.works and lemmy.world being able to post and comment. and they didnt say it was forever they were ope to reopening federation eventually if it works for them. they're just trying to protect what they've worked so hard on.

I didnt get an elitist vibe at all from this post. just that he thinks lemmy is a better place for themselves than reddit is and explains why. their allowed to have an opinion.
im not too worried about that. i think they'll do a fine job.
