That and the Prometheans were just so unsatisfying as enemies.
The teleporting away (and appearing randomly), how you didn't seem to visibly hurt them / bullet sponge, disappearing on death etc all contributed to it feeling like a chore to off them.
5 was a bit better but still nowhere near the fun of 1-3/reach/odst
Pretty sure I went to one of the last concerts in this one venue in town. It was on the top floor of an old building.
They turned the lights up and made everyone stop moving so much for the rest of the concert, apparently because bits of the ceiling were falling downstairs. Everyone was annoyed.
Don't think there was ever another concert there, and last I saw it's now an art gallery.

Can you reload old saves, or only the most recent? I think being able to reload an older save is important in the case of glitches (NPC walks through wall and is unreachable etc)

I feel that it's a bit of a false dichotomy to say that if WW2 didn't happen then those things also wouldn't happen. There's nothing inherent about WW2 that had to happen for those advancements - they may have just been achieved faster due to the war.
