Playing Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. Not much new here, doing some side content while waiting for FrontNav minerals to give me what I need. Did some side quests, also finally found the dog, so was able to do tons of heart-to-heart.

Finally got the required mineral last night and went to start Chapter 7, when I realised I haven't surveyed Oblivia enough! facepalm I remember checking it before and was sure I meet the required number, so I either it read the requriement wrong or my survey percentage wrong.

Anyways, with Skell, it shouldn't take too long to do it. Also, got all my characters to level 30, so can buy Skells for them. Haven't done that yet though, will do it soon.

The Surge time was pretty productive, completed the third area, and got some good upgrades, then went back to second area (that's how the game flows), and now am stuck at the boss.

I am bit confused about this boss. It has two phases, I have gotten down first one now, can do it without losing much health, or sometimes, any health. The second phase has 4 robo-arms on the side walls, which keep attacking you when you are attacking the mail pillar / boss. You can destroy those 4 arms, but if kill the boss without destroying the arms, you get a very good weapon.

So, that's where I am stuck, I want to kill the boss without destroying those arms, to get that weapons, but I am not sure if I am good enough to keep track of 5 different things and attack the boss while dodging them. Going to try a few more times, if it didn't work out, will just destroy the arms.

Also got Street Fighter 6

I am more of a casual fighting game player, but still enjoy them every now and then, with a soft spot for Street Fighter and Soulcalibur games. So, just got it to play few rounds every now and then. Thinking about seeing if I can get anywhere in ranked, but not too concerned about it.

Ilandar mentioned PlanetSide 2 last week, and after looking it up, I wanted to give it a try. Plan to check it out over the weekend. I am not much of a MMO fan, so not sure how much I will actually play, but want to take a look.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

For those who don't know, we have always kept an up to date list of upcoming first party games in the sidebar, but since most people, specially those on mobile, never even view the sidebar, going to start a new series, where I make a monthly post for all the upcoming first party games, which also allows me to post some more info and format them better.

The post won't be kept up to date once posted, and any new games announced or dates changed would show up in next months post. Though the side bar will always stay up to date.

I've been doing some experimentation lately with my Switch, and have replaced the thermal paste on all layers (under the copper heat spreader, under the heat sink, and on top of the heat pipe). I used a combination of Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet (for heat spreader and heat sink) and K5 Pro (for heat pipe) if anyone is curious. I am running a Switch with the original SOC (higher heat and power) that I bought in about late 2018.

I wasn't expecting much if anything, but in games they seem to have had a bit of a performance improvement, especially in docked mode. The two games I especially noticed were Fire Emblem Three Houses and Pokemon Violet. In Three Houses, the loading sections in explore mode (so fully in game, with everything still showing on screen) took far less time than I remember (1-3 seconds compared to 5-10) along with a higher frame rate during the loading, and in Violet the frame rate seems a decent bit more stable. Unfortunately, since my Switch is not modded, I do not have any hard performance numbers to back up these perceived improvements. I have heard that the Switch will prioritise CPU clocks over GPU when loading due to thermal restrictions, but I cannot find anything about it being able to boost both if it has the thermal headroom. The outside of the Switch is definitely exhausting more heat, which could suggest more heat is being taken away from the SOC and consequently cooling it down.

Does anyone have any experience with doing this, and have you gotten a similar result? I am curious to find out if this is just placebo, or if this is genuinely a way to increase performance even just by a little bit.

  • Fixed issue where, when playing “3DS Music Park” during Time Trials and the player opened and closed the pause menu over and over, the timing of the “notes” jumping lost sync with the background music and ghost data that was registered would start not playing correctly.
    • The timing of the “notes” jumping still loses sync with the background music when opening and closing the menu even after applying updated data, but they will jump at correct timing when the ghost data plays.
    • Ghost data for “3DS Music Park” that was created in Ver.3.0.3. or earlier cannot be uploaded.

Remember when you use to buy a Switch game and the game would atleast partially before updates, be on the cartridge?

Well imagine buying a key cart for your Switch2 and, you have to download the game from their servers from scratch. The game doesn't download itself to the cartridge, but onto your Switch 2 consoles internal memory.

Now imagine getting a bad update and trying to delete some data including the update, just to play with the original games version.

physical Key cart games are treated just like they are digital which means you can't revert the update.

Even if the game is saved onto your Switch's internal you cannot legally play a key cart game, without the key carts inserted in your switch.

The game data is not stored on the key cartridge but on your switch's internal memory.

$80 $70 Nintendo Switch 2 carts

There is a Japan exclusive console Nintendo Switch 2 edition, that costs much less than the default multi language Nintendo Switch 2. Japan has two Switch 2 consoles in Japan.

supposibly the cheaper Switch will only work in Japan, and only support the Japanese language.

Nintendo putting their own country first? and charging everyone else more? huh?

Finished chapter 6 of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition!

Also got a skell! Going to see if I can buy more skells right now or just buy some weapons for it.

I have one big complaint though, about the map and enemy placements in this game. For instance, a quest with recommended level 20, has level 30 or above enemies in the main path, and it isn't easy to go around them.

Similarly, there was a level 5 quest in the start, where you had to get communication device of someone, and it was right beside level 35 monsters, and I couldn't get to it without entering combat with them.

It's one thing when it's a normal quest, like the level 5 one, but that level 20 one was an affinity quest, which means I can't progress without doing it either, and there is apparently no way to abandon it once accepted.

Maybe I am just not doing something right.

Played a bit of The Surge too. Couldn't get very far in the third area, the Biolabs something. So, looked up some info and apparently I was using the weapons wrong. I was ignoring the damage type of the weapons since the game never mentioned anything about them anywhere, but apparently my weapon is pretty much useless against armour, switched to another weapon (also learned you can select multiple weapons and switch between them with one button!) which had damage for armour, and even though it's overall power was much less, I was killing enemies so much faster! Only issue is that this weapon is staff, where I am more comfortable with one-handed weapons, and can't find a good one-handed one that deals damage to armour.

Still, haven't gotten much further because of annoying Robo dogs, died to them a few times. Will try again.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

Something that a lot of you might find really cool: With Nintendo's recent update for the Switch, you can now share most digital games (and DLC) with your friends/family using "Virtual Game Cards". Essentially, you're lending a digital copy of your game to your friends, and lose access to it yourself, for the duration that your friend is borrowing it.

One of the very first things I wondered was if you could share discontinued games that have been delisted. I personally have 2 or 3 of such games myself, including the legacy version of Minecraft Nintendo Switch Edition, which never got a physical release and was delisted from the eShop in 2018 when the bedrock version replaced it.

I went to my friends house today to let him borrow a game, and we decided to test it out. I can confirm that it works! My friend has been wishing he could play the legacy version on Switch for years, and he can now finally do so because I was able to lend my digital game to him!

The lending is for 2 weeks, and the game will be automatically returned to me once the time is up. At that point, I will have to meet up with him in person again if he wants to continue borrowing the game.
