That’s the cycle though: Dems win a scintilla of power, do nothing, and then lose to the republicans who fuck shit up.
Its been ratcheting like that my entire life.
It’s been “vote for harm reduction “ my entire life
It’s not ever going to get better.
And the world should be pissed at all Americans. We’re clearly fucking awful. I hate all Americans and I am one
Because you can't build things, you can't fix things, you can't make positive progress, with a scintilla of power. You can often BREAK things if you have a slim majority, because that's easier than building things.
The two major things Democrats have brought us in the last 20 years have been Obamacare, which happened during the two months of actual control Democrats had, and the IRA, which was a masterful bit of politics that Biden and Democrats managed to pull off despite not having a supermajority.
So how do we break the cycle of Dems never getting enough power to do more than slap a band aid on things? Keep voting for them like I have for decades? Because that's been working so fucking well.
And maybe if they acted like a goddamn opposition party Republicans wouldn't be able to wreck shit with a bare majority. Like maybe don't hand Donald Trump a blank check.
Get MORE people to vote for Democrats, it's not rocket science. It's not some great mystery. The party that gets more votes wins.
Why is that my problem? Shouldn’t the Democratic Party be doing that already? Isn’t that why they’re always begging for money? Wasn’t that what the billion dollars they wasted fighting Trump was for?
Why even have a political party if it’s up to individuals to do this?
Because that's how the concept of democracy works. It's not like a fucking Doordash order you can make. "Hello I'd like one democracy please". If you're a citizen, it's your problem. You want your people or your policies to win, then you have to convince people to vote for them.
And to do that you pool your resources, right? In some kind of poltical “party” that employs experts to have the greatest effect, right?
And if that political party can’t win enough elections to gain power, is it doing its job or just wasting my time and money?
It's not a vending machine or a listing on Amazon. It's not a company that exists to provide you a service. If it has the money and the volunteers and the messaging, it convinces people and it wins. If it doesn't, it doesn't.
The democrats had a billion dollars in the last election and still lost to a semiliterate buffoon.
They have the money. They had the volunteers. And they still lost.
Maybe how they’re using that money and volunteer effort is broken? Nah, it’s my fault for not giving them every last dime and quitting my job to go knock on doors.
That is a problem. Republicans have captured the media. I agree that the only possible way forward for Democrats at this point is to recapture the media. All the money and policies in the world won't matter if Republicans can spew propaganda uncontested.
It's also a bit of a bigger issue that people are so gullible, but I don't think we can fix that any time soon.
