I is just me or is saying Romanian born American Jewish writer a bit confusing? Is he an American born in Romania who writes Jewish? Or is he born in Romania and now writes about American Jewish topics? Also what is American Jewism?

That aside, he makes a good point.

Eliezer "Elie" Wiesel[a] (September 30, 1928 – July 2, 2016) was a Romanian-born American writer, professor, political activist, Nobel laureate, and Holocaust survivor. He authored 57 books, written mostly in French and English, including Night, a work based on his experiences as a Jewish prisoner in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.[6]

I was just taking the piss, but this makes it more clear. Wish Wikipedia would put it in the right order though:

  1. Romanian baby in 1928
  2. Jewish prisoner in Auschwitz and Buchenwald
  3. American writer and Holocaust survivor.
