During his lifetime, Wiesel had deflected questions on the topic of the Israeli settlements, claiming to abstain from commenting on Israel's internal debates

Should've practiced what you preach Elie.

I is just me or is saying Romanian born American Jewish writer a bit confusing? Is he an American born in Romania who writes Jewish? Or is he born in Romania and now writes about American Jewish topics? Also what is American Jewism?

That aside, he makes a good point.

Eliezer "Elie" Wiesel[a] (September 30, 1928 – July 2, 2016) was a Romanian-born American writer, professor, political activist, Nobel laureate, and Holocaust survivor. He authored 57 books, written mostly in French and English, including Night, a work based on his experiences as a Jewish prisoner in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.[6]

I was just taking the piss, but this makes it more clear. Wish Wikipedia would put it in the right order though:

  1. Romanian baby in 1928
  2. Jewish prisoner in Auschwitz and Buchenwald
  3. American writer and Holocaust survivor.

Imo. relegating the decision to a properly qualified person/institution is reasonable, when you have insufficient knowledge. When it comes to matters of society as a whole of course you have a duty to acquire the knowledge and understanding, albeit that not always being easy in on itself with the way that information itself is manipulated and controlled.

Deferring to someone else's expertise is still making a decision. It means you trust that person/institution in that matter enough to take their side, whichever that may be. Still beats sitting on the fence.

When I vote for someone I consider them the expert I trust to make decisions on thing I don't have knowledge of. For that reason I'm pro democracy but against (large amounts of) referendums.

Exactly! Not voting, is the same as letting the fascists win. Take sides!

If you disagree with the non-fascist party on their politics, help AOC and Bernie with kicking out the corrupt party members. Don't just step back and let fascists win, that's retarded.

Agree in principle, but please don't use the r-word, society is trying to move past that era.
