There was an old Soviet joke. American and Soviet guys met at a bar and started talking about each other's countries. American said, "I have a freedom of speech, I can stand in front of the White House and yell "Reagan is an idiot", and nobody will do anything to me". One is known by the citizens the other isn't.
Chinese citizens can't just Google Kent State or MOVE or Waco or Ruby Ridge or Rodney King or anything like this.
