Why does almost everyone seem to draw the 🚫 symbol backwards? Even the Ghostbusters logo is guilty of this crime:

I never noticed there was a "right way". I see now that there is an ISO standard that is used for (eg) traffic control signs, but that alone doesn't make the other way backwards in situations where someone has hand-drawn a sign.

I do it that way because it's how I draw zeros (Ø). Oopsies

Id guess right handed people draw it "backwards" like that because they are more likely to draw a circle counterclockwise from the top, leaving them in position for a slash in that direction.

Nah fam, / is the correct way. Even traffic signs are like that.

See? This is what I'm talking about. People like you are even misremembering the direction of the slash:

American "No Parking" sign, showing a backslash in the "no" symbol
European "No Parking" sign, also showing a backslash in the "no" symbol, thus proving me right

Why do so many people mis-remember this? What causes this phenomenon?

That's... not the same symbol. He's right it does go the other way.

I think it's more natural to go NE-SW though because that's it's easier to draw like that.

It's not the same, because I don't live in the same country.

there ya go

Since we're both familiar with german signs, you would agree that Halteverbot is a symbol in and of itself and there's nothing crossed out. As you scroll down the page you linked to, you'll see a Halteverbot crossed out, and it's like this /

My point is not to be right, but just to show the Americans, that not everything "is correct like this", since we are in an international space with lots of different rules. So our thread here goes into the opposite direction of what I wanted to achieve. Still appreciate the conversation.

and it’s like this /

Only because they clearly don't want the slashes going the same way. I almost pointed that out but I thought it was obvious.
