I've seen people posting tweets from public figures talking about alligators, seen other people joking about alligators. It appears to me that the issue is political, not environmental, but I don't fully get the picture.

What's going on?

"Alligator Alcatraz" is a new concentration camp built in the swamps of Florida. They're selling Alligator Alcatraz merchandise to fund some cartoonishly evil dickwad's political campaign.

Who tf supports a concentration camp... And displays merch of it... And you say somebody is making a profit? Wtf

This is just one of the people who whispers into Trump's ear.

I've seen this one in particular

Understanding the context now doesn't make me feel any better :/

Not to mention, that 65 million figure is the total number of Latino people in the US - born citizens, naturalized citizens, documented and undocumented immigrants. It’s clear that they’re ramping up to imprison anyone they deem insufficiently white.

We’re in extremely dangerous territory.

I'm surprised they haven't started calling black people the n-word openly yet.

Some never stopped...

The problem is propaganda and a deliberate decision by MAGA to make their every effort to refuse to see a duck for a duck.

These people don't support "concentration camps" they support "detention centers" that "house immigrants" before deportation.

Nevermind that it's a distinction without a difference, morally it feels better to tell yourself it's not a concentration camp and that you'd never support a concentration camp. But they are, and they do. They'd just never admit it to you or themselves.

As for the profit: of fucking course. This is America, we socialize corporate expenses and privatize corporate profits for everything. The intended purpose for taxation of the working class now is to feed the ultra wealthy a competition free source of additional wealth.

The MAGA half of America is very much pro-genocide. It's terrifying

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Yes, it's the American way.

Like LucasWaffyWaf said: cartoonishly evil dickwads.

land of the free

making merch for concentration camps illegal would be un-american. think of the freedom of companies to do what they want!

Time to counter that merch by spreading merch where the "Alcatraz" is replaced by "Auschwitz".
