Thanks to the commenter who reminded me that it's not bad to be reminded that the term is only a pejorative because conservative racists made it so.

Reminder that woke was originally used as a positive term.

Nowadays I prefer the term "correct".

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I honestly don't see people using "woke" positively these days.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

That’s because most of us just call it what it is: empathy.

But they’re trying to make that a pejorative too now.

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

well.. sure yeah. My point still stands about "woke" though.

I think it's wild that the word 'woke' entirely replaced the selective outrage on the 2010s over "CRT," a bogyman that most white conservatives still cannot define.

[–] four@lemmy.zip 39 points 2 months ago (2 children)

My stupid ass: "why did the conservatives have an issue with Cathode Ray Tube TVs?"

[–] Blob9994@piefed.mitch.science 10 points 2 months ago

Lol, yeah that was constantly the problem I had back then, especially since MAGA was using "CRT" as the scare word, and not nothing to mention that it means "Critical Race Theory," a phrase well in-line with other subjects in other fields, like Biblical Critical Theory.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Because super smash brothers is woke

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Fuck yeah it is.

See also: politically correct (PC) and social justice warrior (SJW)...all just fancy ways to call someone a commie pinko bleeding heart socialist. The Red Scare never really stopped, and neither did the Lavender Scare

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That was depressing. I knew our president was dumb, but I still didn't think he could be that dumb.

Twas an obvious superimposition of letters to (likely) lie about the meaning of the tattoo, no?

Know MANY people saw:

[Below, As Undisclosed Photoshop]

After seeing pixels over years I saw:

Obviously the fact that you & 66 others just in this thread, and hundreds or thousands online are upset about the superimposition, indicate it was stupid/dishonest. Sigh what else is new w/current admin!

No reminder needed for me, but for those who might want to do a deep dive:

I wince any time someone says something like "Wake up!", "Take the red pill!" etc.

It invariably means "Start believing the shite I believe"

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

What's amusing is that the Wikipedia article traces its origin back to the Republican Party.

[–] knobbysideup@sh.itjust.works -2 points 2 months ago

Not really. It was just another fart sniffer word some groups liked to use.
