It's odd that she would avoid alcohol while pregnant but not sushi.

tl;dr:
I guess you could probably have like vegetable tempura or avacado rolls or something, but depending on how it's prepared it might still be around the raw fish.
There's also a risk of heavy metal exposure, especially mercury.
Wow! Yeah never knew it could be dangerous like that to pregnant ladies. I dont have any kids though, so.

The two aren't even close.
People try to avoid known risk factors when pregnant, some stuff really is bad to roll the dice on. A lot of newly pregnant people also go overboard avoiding stuff that's classified as dangerous. It's not an unusual thing to say.
