they did define themselves as leeches recently

[–] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Wait, what? I missed that, do you have a link?

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 26 points 2 months ago (2 children)

They stated they didn't break piracy laws because they downloaded a shitload of books for their LLM and didn't seed any.

Torrents are downloaded by "leeches" and put out for download by "seeders"

A proper ratio of what you downloaded to what you allow others to download should be 1:1 if you're not a dick. (1gb downloaded means you need to upload 1gb to other users for 1:1) but if you don't seed at ALL or if you only seed bare minimum to keep downloading things, you're called a Leech, and derogatorily. Because you didn't seed.

So they're stating "we didn't break the law, we're just leeches!"

Ahh, gotcha, thanks. Not the leaches I had in mind, but funny that they said that regardless.

I've run into an issue lately where nearly everything I torrent is from IA, who has 2 webseeds. I can sit there seeding for weeks and still be at a 0.0 ratio

Zuckerberg said on Joe Rogan that he wants more "masculine energy workplace", where the leaders "celebrate aggression a bit more". Makes sense he was talking about executive boots all over office worker faces.

Fuck that. More masculine energy workplace my ass.

Edit: Sorry I don't have anything better to add.

Um, can I get a job at this mythical place that puts more masculine energy in my ass?

Edit: asking for a friend

I mean, to be fair, the executive team writes 90% of the code. All the other employees are basically lazy and useless if it weren't for the execs dragging them along.

It's sarcasm, stupid.

I’ve been wondering where to ask - maybe here is the right place - when the economy tanks, social security is gone and all, isn’t that bad for the oligarchs? I mean a significant reduction in income means lower tax revenues, no tax revenues reduces government contracts, nobody has money to spend on anything - it seems this is bad for oligarch business.

It'll be their children's children's problem.

It depends on what they're left owning.
