I feel like an idiot for believing that it was just over the cheating allegations.

I'm genuinely upset that I spread his content to support him.

This is why you don't use active lawsuits you're in as content. You're gonna say something that's gonna bite you in the ass.

Damn, that sucks.

He did go out pretty hard after Mitchell, but he has moderated himself recently.

Guess he didn't get the memo that all YouTubers have to say "allegedly" every other word.

Wasn't he a cheater though?

Probably, but that's not what this lawsuit was about.

This one, the youtuber claimed that Mitchell was partly responsible for the suicide of another youtuber.

Maybe I should have read the article...

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world -4 points 1 day ago

Eh, I've never found that to be a necessity. You got the same info either way.

Jobst's video also claimed that Mitchell had "expressed joy at the thought" of Smith's death.

Damn. Yeah I can see why he got sued.

In my opinion Mitchell did exactly that.

“My wife found two different places online [that] Apollo Legend is dead. If it’s true, I will not shed a tear. I will try not to smile or giggle. No promises,” Mitchell said in a text. https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/queensland/video-game-champion-regrets-jokes-about-death-rumour-20240917-p5kbd9.html

Both of the people are so shitty in this. on one hand Karl absolutely defamed Billy on the other hand Billy has so many times used the legal system to bend people to his will that I still hate how much he won.

From the small amount of info in the article, it sounds like the judge didn't like that someone "small" was trying to take on someone "big". I have received similar bullshit sentences in court against banks (you are just trying to take advantage of the big guy so you get nothing), so my first instinct is to doubt the decision was fair

Uhh.. clearly you didn’t even read the article mate.

According to the judge, the 2020 settlement between Mitchell and Smith never involved any money. Smith was told to remove any YouTube videos and social media posts he made relating to Mitchell. He was also required to hand over copyright of those removed videos to Mitchell, and to stop publishing content about Mitchell or face a $25,000 fine for each incident.

Jobst had originally claimed that Smith was ordered to pay Mitchell $1 million. Jobst edited the video several times while it was online, once after Mitchell suggested he intended to sue, and again after Smith's brother confirmed no money had been exchanged in the settlement between Mitchell and Smith.

Guy claimed Mitchel caused the dudes suicide because of debt, there was zero money involved in the lawsuit, then the guy tried to hide it. Guy defamed mitchel, got caught, tried hiding it.

And you want to claim what here? Maybe just read the article mate.
