They live until like 114 yo, so what are they considering middle age?
The 2 guys listed are 74 and 68 respectively, so I think they would be late middle age. That fits with your theory.
One of the dudes mentioned was 81! At least in the article from when this was posted a few days ago. Calling an 81 year old "middle-aged" might be a bit too generous.
It is definitely generous, but they are dudes in their community. I wouldn't want to break it to them that they're old. Japan has a serious problem of depopulation, I've seen a show where they were calling the guy a kid and he was 70. Compared to everyone else working at the festival, he was.
That's mostly BS. A lot of follow-ups to studies on supposed long-living areas have found that there are a few common things:
- deaths not being reported (sometimes because no one notices, sometimes to collect benefits longer)
- bad recordkeeping, particularly in warzones where records were destroyed
- lying (sometimes coupled with the above) to be older for some benefit
Kiryu is 55 in the latest version of the game. He'd be on one of these cards!
