This feels very confusing. Sombody from lemmy.ml is gonna reply to me not knowing they are defeded.

I think there should be a label telling users from lemmy.ml saying "This user's instance has defederated your instance".

Happens a lot with lemmynsfw users, as that instance is quite defederated. .

A label could maybe help indeed

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 1 points 1 day ago

A little unrelated, a friend of mine is asking if you need to register specifically on lemmynsfw to see its content, as it wasn't the case a little ago and now he can see only non-lewd stuff.

[–] poVoq@slrpnk.net 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This only applies to old posts. New post will not be send to lemmy.ml anymore.

[–] Nothing4You@programming.dev 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

they won't be sent by infosec.pub directly, but other instances may send activities referencing content from infosec.pub, which will lead lemmy.ml to pull it from the source as well.

this includes for example posts and comments in lemmy.world communities, because lemmy.world will announce those to lemmy.ml.

[–] Die4Ever@retrolemmy.com 9 points 2 days ago

oh yea actually this makes sense, because lemmy.ml does not block infosec

[–] ERROR_100_000_100@infosec.pub 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Um... no, this is a new account. The defederation happened a while ago, which is the reason why I chose infosec.pub

https://lemmy.ml/u/error_100_000_100@infosec.pub

I just check https://infosec.pub/instances it says lemmy.ml is defeded

Bug? 🤔

You can still manually query accounts, yes. But that is not what I said.

Good to see another instance defederate from ML. Now if only more of the non-tankie communities moved off ML (it's slowly happening).

[–] Die4Ever@retrolemmy.com 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

yea this is weird actually, even this post is on lemmy.ml

https://lemmy.ml/post/28866410

seems like a bug to me

edit: nvm, this post is being "boosted" by lemmy.world, but comments and upvotes from lemmy.ml will be blocked by infosec, because this is a one-way block not mutual

[–] kbal@fedia.io 5 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Why did it get defederated?

[–] ERROR_100_000_100@infosec.pub 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm not sure and I don't really care. But I'm assuming its just the admin's personal dislike of lemmy.ml. Regardless, I chose this instance because of it. I'm sure there are still small number of users acting in good faith on lemmy.ml, but I just don't wanna deal with their admins' tankie influence and the higher ratio of trolls on that instance.

[–] nico198X@feddit.nl 4 points 2 days ago

Too much tankie bullshit probably

[–] kbal@fedia.io 4 points 2 days ago

Oh shit, Jerry legit blocked it: https://fedia.io/m/fedia/t/1468012/Fedia-reporting-issues-with-specific-servers-e-g-lemmy-ml-lemmy-one-startrek-website/comment/8379246#entry-comment-8379246

It's unfortunate IMO. I thought it was just some kind of weird mbin problems causing lemmy.ml not to federate, then I mostly forgot about it. Although that server is not without problems I'm sure, it's a huge piece of the lemmy world to be missing and it's a pretty small world to begin with.

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 days ago

That’s a good question with no answer

[–] Jerry@feddit.online 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Jerry's post says he blocked 2 others. Other than lemmy.ml, what were the other 2?

[–] muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

Probably hexbear and lemmygrad

[–] Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I believe it's a Star Trek instance and a smaller instance that's called lemmy.one or something like that.

I mean, I don't care if people accidentally waste their time making mean comments that I can't see, but the problem is if .ml can still the see posts, they can downvote and I wouldn't be see those downvotes to be able to know if there's brigading.

[–] vk6flab@lemmy.radio 4 points 2 days ago

Why do you care about votes?

What makes you think that a defederated instance votes are still captured?

Why do you care about what happens on another instance?

[–] Diva@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

accidentally waste their time making mean comments that I can’t see

making comments people don't see or acknowledge is one of my favorite pastimes
