An orange tabby cat named Suki became the first honorary feline graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. According to FOX 7, UT student Francesca Bourdier spent most of her college career at home like any other college student, on Zoom with her cat by her side.

Bourduer said Suki attended every class she had online so she knew she had to include the one-and-a-half-year-old cat when graduation came around.

Through a quick search online, Bourdier was even able to buy Suki her own cap and gown.

Imagine being 40 and still paying off your dead cats student loans

[–] CaptnNMorgan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I support this

Grim, but relatable.

Whoops, wrong spot for reply.

[–] Randomocity@sh.itjust.works 49 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Was this an expedited degree? The cat is only a year and a half old. I think this might be fraud.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It only attended lectures, but did no tests or quizzes? Even if it negotiated pass/fail grades on attendance and not exams, the degree should probably have stipulations requiring some number of credits be from letter grades.

At best, this cat was auditing classes. I do not believe it earned this degree and I would not hire it in the field based on it.

I find these statements discriminatory and have decided it's best we make sure they vote this cat to be Governor of Texas.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Cat's overqualified for that position.

It seems the owner is selling fashion on Instagram and training to be a Pilates teacher. Maybe the degree wasn't that expansive.

[–] Uli@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 months ago

A cat teaching Pilates? I thought it was an MBA or something, but this no longer sounds believable.

[–] CatsGoMOW@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Maybe an Associate degree?

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago

How did that cat even get through admissions?! I smell a bribery scandal.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 36 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Gets college degree, remains an unemployed leech.

[–] mexicancartel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago

Unemployed by choice I guess

[–] celeste@kbin.earth 22 points 2 months ago

That cat refused to wear that cap lol

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago

oh that's where all the braincells went

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Remember the lawyer who said he wasn't a cat?

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We had a black lab graduate yesterday!

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why you got to bring race into it

[–] JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago

Another DEI graduate 🙄

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

OMG I hate these fake headlines. The cat can't graduate. She only audited the classes.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, it's true! The cat's already got recruiters putting job offers in her inbox.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Her inbox is also her outbox, though

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Plot twist: the cat did most of the actual work.

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

It was all in ventinary science and mouse psychology

[–] chelatna@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 months ago

What a smart kitten

"University" of "Texas" (derogatory)

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Doctor of Divinity degree

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Wait, can you graduate from uni just by turning up? No exams?

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Cats have pretty privilege in levels humanity can't reach.

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I'm unable to get the jokes about orange cats and low braincell count. My orange cat is a genius.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I've met both, but they often tend to towards the idiot side of the spectrum.

Have a Russian blue who probably has a novel solution to fermats last theorem though.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't get that either - is it a blond thing?

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

I don't think so. Probably a trend that started from some biased material that went viral.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 2 months ago

I support this.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 7 points 2 months ago

Aw what an adorable way to get easy publicity.

[–] superduperpirate@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Suki will be the least annoying UT Austin grad ever

[–] laserm@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Imagine applying for a job and having a cat get the job instead of you

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

Better temperament than me by far I’d wager

[–] Sculptor9157@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

That erudite-looking sonofabitch!

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

Funny if the cat was called Desmond.

Not sure if it's the same across the pond but in the UK a 'Desmond' is the score 2.2

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Wait until his student loans come due

[–] Pnut@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

'graduates' is how they wrote it. I hope they honoured a bunch of students for their actual accomplishments.
