An orange tabby cat named Suki became the first honorary feline graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. According to FOX 7, UT student Francesca Bourdier spent most of her college career at home like any other college student, on Zoom with her cat by her side.

Bourduer said Suki attended every class she had online so she knew she had to include the one-and-a-half-year-old cat when graduation came around.

Through a quick search online, Bourdier was even able to buy Suki her own cap and gown.

Remember the lawyer who said he wasn't a cat?

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Plot twist: the cat did most of the actual work.

It was all in ventinary science and mouse psychology

Wait, can you graduate from uni just by turning up? No exams?

Cats have pretty privilege in levels humanity can't reach.

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 7 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I'm unable to get the jokes about orange cats and low braincell count. My orange cat is a genius.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

I've met both, but they often tend to towards the idiot side of the spectrum.

Have a Russian blue who probably has a novel solution to fermats last theorem though.

I don't get that either - is it a blond thing?

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 days ago

I don't think so. Probably a trend that started from some biased material that went viral.

Imagine applying for a job and having a cat get the job instead of you

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 days ago

Better temperament than me by far I’d wager

[–] superduperpirate@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Suki will be the least annoying UT Austin grad ever

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 days ago

Funny if the cat was called Desmond.

Not sure if it's the same across the pond but in the UK a 'Desmond' is the score 2.2

That erudite-looking sonofabitch!

[–] Pnut@lemm.ee 1 points 6 days ago

'graduates' is how they wrote it. I hope they honoured a bunch of students for their actual accomplishments.

Wait until his student loans come due

[–] plantmoretrees@lemm.ee 68 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Imagine being 40 and still paying off your dead cats student loans

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

Grim, but relatable.

I support this

Whoops, wrong spot for reply.

Was this an expedited degree? The cat is only a year and a half old. I think this might be fraud.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It seems the owner is selling fashion on Instagram and training to be a Pilates teacher. Maybe the degree wasn't that expansive.

[–] Uli@sopuli.xyz 6 points 6 days ago

A cat teaching Pilates? I thought it was an MBA or something, but this no longer sounds believable.

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago

How did that cat even get through admissions?! I smell a bribery scandal.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It only attended lectures, but did no tests or quizzes? Even if it negotiated pass/fail grades on attendance and not exams, the degree should probably have stipulations requiring some number of credits be from letter grades.

At best, this cat was auditing classes. I do not believe it earned this degree and I would not hire it in the field based on it.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I find these statements discriminatory and have decided it's best we make sure they vote this cat to be Governor of Texas.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Cat's overqualified for that position.

[–] CatsGoMOW@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Maybe an Associate degree?

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 36 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Gets college degree, remains an unemployed leech.

Unemployed by choice I guess

[–] celeste@kbin.earth 22 points 1 week ago

That cat refused to wear that cap lol

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

oh that's where all the braincells went

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

OMG I hate these fake headlines. The cat can't graduate. She only audited the classes.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, it's true! The cat's already got recruiters putting job offers in her inbox.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Her inbox is also her outbox, though

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We had a black lab graduate yesterday!

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Why you got to bring race into it

[–] JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago

Another DEI graduate 🙄

[–] chelatna@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago
