But they couldn't do it for Apu... Cowards.

Macleod's debut will see Milhouse in a minimized role, as the character only has one line in the episode — and will appear in a scene where he, Bart, and Lisa are all adults, so all of their voices will probably sound a little different from their usual adolescent selves.

What an odd way to introduce a new voice actor.

I think it'd be perfectly normal if they just didn't write around it and that was the amount of Millhouse that was planned in the episode regardless of the voice actor.

That's what I'd prefer and that's how they (seemingly) handled it with Jimbo Jones. Mo Collins replaced Pamela Hayden, he had a small but significant role in the episode with a handful of lines. Done & done.

Giving the new voice actor a single line as older Milhouse seems weird.

Ultimately it's going to be fine, but just weird.

actually pretty typical for a recurring character like this. you start small and outside of regular context and keep expanding so the weekly audience can acclimate to the change

Amazing World of Gumball pulled it off multiple times with switching to entirely new main cast the next episode after introducing new voices in a small way in an episode. So it's possible to do on a smaller time-frame as well in a two episode jump.

I guess I find it odd compared to Jimbo Jones, who Hayden also voiced. Mo Collins took over and it was a regular episode with Jimbo having several lines.

Maybe it's because Collins did an amazing job... But if that's the case find a better replacement for Milhouse.

Jimbo is also frankly less iconic than milhouse

We've just been watching latter Simpsons (seasons 10+) for the first time.

It's fine. It's obviously not golden age Simpsons, but it evens out.

If you just expect a decent animated show, rather than another 25 seasons of non-stop generation-defining excellence, you won't be disappointed.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

That's exactly what I've been saying for years. Sure the "golden age" is over, but the "silver age" is still worth the time.

Plus characters like Shauna only appear later on. Shauna is a fun character to add to the town of Springfield.

I love the earlier seasons and the references and quotes that came from them are great.

The new seasons feel soulless and the new voice actors make the show feel awkward, it feels like a disservice to let it become just average.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 7 hours ago

simpsons has gone on too long at this point, they need to let it go. even FAMILY guy is ending after 25 years, and the latest seasons were cringey.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 2 points 12 hours ago

I would say it's more variable than average. The pointless shoe-horning of celebrities is annoying, but there are still plenty of great references and bits.

Halloween episodes are often good sometimes great. The Amazing Race parody fits a hilarious Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf parody within it, that's the most recent one we laughed a lot at. Some episodes are worth it for the couch gag alone - the bill plympton homer face one is so beautiful, whole seasons of crap would be worth it for that I think.

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 15 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

I don't know who is still watching new episodes. Obviously someone, because the show keeps going, but I just don't get it. Occasionally I see some youtuber say "Actually the show is good again." and I check it out and never even get to thinking about the plot because all the voice acting is like a punch in the face. All the characters either sound distractingly old with their original voice actors or they sound totally wrong with new ones.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

People just leave it on during dinner. Very few people care anymore, but it's reliable ad venue for the channels.

The show should have been ended a long time ago and the writers and VAs could have moved on to new work, but networks are risk adverse

I'm surprised they don't just use AI at this point, pay the artists like it was real, and then take the heat as publicity. The end result would be better.

I love the Simpsons but it's seriously time to just put it to rest for good. It's so far past it's peak and it will never reach those heights again. I do wonder if the main voice cast still enjoy working on it or if they just do it out of a sense of duty.

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 5 points 16 hours ago

Or the money..

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Honestly, just let the Simpsons die already. No one watches it anymore, and those that do say it's not good.

[–] dumbass@leminal.space 7 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I still watch it and enjoy it.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Ok, everyone except this dumbass

[–] dumbass@leminal.space 5 points 8 hours ago

Woooo, exception to the rule again!

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Marge next please she needs subtitles these days.

[–] finalaccountforreal@lemm.ee 1 points 18 hours ago

That's gonna feel weird
