Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

All throughout history it's our young people who are brave enough to stand up to fascism, authoritarianism and oppression.

I ride a motorcycle, an old BMW and I named her Sophie. I don't plaster it all over the bike, it's just a silly thing I do for myself to remind me of the past. The name is after Sophie Scholl, a young 21 year old university student who stood up and protested against the Nazi regime in her country in 1943.

Even in the face of severe punishment she kept protesting until they arrested her and put her to death.

This young man is giving up so much, maybe giving up their future, to fight for all of us ... there is no greater bravery than that.

NYU immediately announced it is withholding the student’s diploma as it pursues disciplinary actions against him, in the latest flashpoint between free speech principles and punishment for pro-Palestinian advocacy on U.S. college campuses.

Because of course they are, Cowards.

Prob to be followed soon by his "deportation" (read: sequester in El Salvador gulag).

🙄 🤡 🖕

This is one of the rare occasions I would recommend putting "diploma withheld" on your resume.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 11 points 20 hours ago

I would even recommend, "Graduated, With Honors, diploma withheld."

By emphasizing the former part with capital letters, one can infer that the latter part doesn't actually matter.

He earned the degree. I'd definitely accept it and simply treat it as normal.

So, to be clear, this person graduated, for all intents and purposes, but simply did not receive the piece of paper that says so?

Shit man, I thought this was actually consequential. They should 100% put it on their resume if this is the case.

So. Not proud. I'm on academic probation. This would not work. What you're saying would not work. Anywhere.

The world is not a monolith, and this would be a green flag for the many, many people who support his actions and value integrity among their employees.

I don’t understand why there’s any crackdown on any of this. Not liking a war is kinda traditional around here. Or was.

Maybe that’s it. Maybe they’re planning another unpopular war and this is the preliminary work.

A global holy war where rightwing christian conservatives simultaneously claim they have to eradicate muslims to save jews while simultaneously setting up jews up to take all the blame as a longterm skapegoat instead of the war profiteering billionaires for when it all catastrophically backfires.

History is a nightmare from which we are trying to awake.

For-profit university wants to keep the money flowing in. Can’t have those pesky free thinking students speaking out if it means federal funds or private donations stop arriving.

[–] zephorah@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

It’s a bribe then.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 20 points 2 days ago

Update resume to say spoke at NYU graduation, any company that looks it up will either not be worth it and eliminate themselves or understand.

[–] orcrist@lemm.ee 8 points 2 days ago

And we all know that the university is just f****** around. They will withhold whatever documentation for a month or two, and then if he gets a lawyer they will quietly cave, because they never cared one way or the other, they're just afraid of Trump.
