Got a new camera in this afternoon! And since itβs a long weekend, Iβm going to squeeze in a bit of photography, weather permitting. (And yes, Iβm one of those silly people still shooting film)

I finally got a Plex client up and running on a raspberry pi for my CRT TV. So now I can watch all of my old movies and shows without swapping out a DVD when I'm comfy.
I've upgraded my CPU. It was the first time I've replaced a CPU on my own, only relying on guides on the internet. It was quite intimidating, but it worked out in the end and now I can play videogames that previously were too laggy or just couldn't run on my PC at all.
The games in question are Elden Ring: Nightreign, Oblivion remake and No Man's Sky.
I've also realised that an outdated CPU was effectively throttling my internet, because even though I had a gigabit connection, my PC couldn't handle downloading stuff at full speed. So that's lesson learned.
That's great! Which game are you most excited about?
Probably Nightreign - I'm a big fan of the genre and particularly Elden Ring, so I've been looking forward to it for some time. Plus it's an opportunity to pull some of my friends into the soulslikes!
Sounds good hope you love it!
Saw my grandson twice. His face lit up with smiles each time.
That rocks! I love it.
An open source protects I co-maintain is about to reach a first stable release. It feels good to put the finishing touches on.
My job is getting me a work van! So excited to not put the miles on my own car any more
That's gonna save you loads of wear and tear!
Due to a scheduling conflict, we moved our Seattlevacation up from August to week after next!
Oh yay! What are you gonna do when you're there?
2 days on Citypass stuff: Space Needle (I never did go when I lived there), Woodland Park Zoo, MoPop, Seattle Aquarium, and Chihuly. 2 days east driving the Cascades and back stopping at any view (11 waterfalls on the route), staying in Leavenworth over night. 2 days on the peninsula visiting the Hoh and Quinalt rainforests as well as Kalaloch beach plus whatever else we can fit in, over night still to be decided. We're also going to fit in a whale/otter boat tour somewhere.
My 5 year old son told me: "Ich hab dich lieb Daddy"
We only speak German at home, so it was out of no where and totally unexpected that he said Daddy instead of Papa.
English is my native tongue, so it was really a sweet surprise to here him say that. It hit me right in the heart strings.
Too cute! Thanks for sharing.
I have reached a sort of zen-mode inside. After almost 2 years of near nonstop stress, I have finally found some calm in the middle of everything. Things are still chaotic and uncertain and all that, but I just don't really worry about it right now. I don't know how long I'll feel this way, but I intent to ride this wave and nurture it for as long as possible, because this calm is like a glass of water in a desert.
It's pretty cool to see that the changes I have implemented have already paid off.
I feel so free and I hope it lasts longer than a week.
That's great! You've had a lot of stress non stop but now you're getting some well earned calm. Nurturing it is a great idea you're making the most of it. I'm so pleased the changes you made paid off, it just shows what a difference you can make to yourself well done
Yeah. Kinda feels like being at a nonstop spa. Hope you and everyone else either have or will soon have this zen mode available to you too, because sheesh, it is so nice to feel like this.
Thanks mate hope yours lasts forever
I've been busy at work which is good because it goes faster. I'm seeing my friend next week which I'm really excited about. I've got the weekend off and I'm having fun planning what boxset to start. Ooooh quite a few things! Not too shabby
Dear OP, it's so kind and thoughtful of you to host such discussion threads, and it's so nice that you have good news to share. Allow me, on behalf of the rest of us, to acknowledge your good news. Enjoy your weekend, time with your friend next week, and the boxset (maybe let us know what the latter means). Thank you for all that you do!
Two week low of major pain let up today. I have been modeling a ton of stuff in CAD to integrate into my bedside laptop stand.
So I knew I could hack this old iPod-dock clock radio easily from multiple approaches, but I finally got around to looking up the display and chips used and it turns out that it is all petty well documented and approachable. Not to mention the hardware build is half decent, especially for an old thrift store junk find. I have to avoid going too far down this rabbit hole and getting lost in the side project, like programming often ends up becoming for me, but it was a nice surprise reading the datasheet and realizing I could mess with it easily. I also seemed to have a few days streak of only encountering nice, real people on Lemmy without any vitriol.
