I still rewatch the series and movie every few years and get pissed off at the end all over again.
came to say its still firefly. Just watching serenity and I have not since it came out. Even bought the blue ray and did not watch it at the time. I have to say I like it a bit more. I think I was so sad at all the plot lines I could see them snip at the time that it just sorta depressed me when I watched it in the theater.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I'm not a big Terminator-head, only seen half of the movies, but that was the version of Terminator I really got into.
TSCC ENDING SPOILERS, STAY OUT
The decision to end the show by having John jump into the post-apocalyptic future was wild, from a production standpoint. You have this show that's in permanent danger of being cancelled and you go "What if we set up our ending so the next season is guaranteed to blow the budget because we can't just film in present-day California any more?" It was a great hook, but I wonder whether they could have gotten a third season if they'd presented a smaller target.I loved this show! But the abrupt "ending" just left so many plot points unanswered that I can't rewatch it at all, because I get disappointed. The acting was quite impressive, especially Lena Hedley (Sarah Connor), who went on to play Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones
A lot of great performances, absolutely. And the long-form presentation is really what gave Summer Glau room to do the kind of "robot becomes human" work that is not really possible in the movies.
I agree that the ending is kind of too specific to be satisfying. I don't mind ambiguous or open endings that leave you wondering (maybe forever) what will come next, but the ending we got told us too much and not enough at the same time.
TSCC ENDING SPOILERS, STAY OUT
I feel like cutting the episode slightly early would have worked better if they wanted to craft a "maybe we'll get a season 3, maybe this is the end" situation. If the cliffhanger was "Will John stay in the present or jump into the future?" and the show got cancelled there, there's nothing promised about where this story is headed and the possibilities for what adventures come next are basically endless. Instead, the show told us exactly what direction the story was going in and then ... didn't do it. That's worse to me.The forever answer to this is Firefly.
But as for others: Babylon 5, Threshold, Black Books.
I don't think Black Books was cancelled as such, I just think Dylan Moran was done.
Are we not counting cancellations by the writers?

I'm afraid I can see why that happened. It was very expensive and had insane user drop-off.

The Santa Clarita Diet
It was stupid fun and a different take on the zombie genre with black humor (making death or violence humorous..not the racist one) and only had about one more season to wrap things up

Carnivàle was the first time I was hurt by a cancellation. It is still the hurtest hurt.
The Patriot on prime it's the best show nobody's watched. Black Summer on netflix was a sensational zombie show they really shouldn't have cancelled
I started Black Summer because they were short and I was bored, but soon became hooked and binged all of them. Excellent stories in a crowded genre.

Just Patriot, The Patriot is that Mel Gibson movie people think I'm talking about when I tell them they need to watch Patriot immediately.
Perpetual Grace LTD was pretty good too, probably saw less views because it was exclusive to another premium channel no one cared enough to pay for.

Wheel of Time. Incredible story that I've read and reread since I was a child, combined with a stellar cast and some minor changes to have better LGBTQ rep. It got really good and then they axed it.
I really wish we could enact a law or something that said "if you want to take on an established series, you have to finish it"

One more season instead if the 2 part TV movie we got trying to hastily wrap it all up.
Came here to say Almost Human if nobody else did.

Much less a cancellation and more of a "setup and abandoned".
Season 1 of Picard setup a new and interesting crew for a spin off series. Never happened.
Season 3 of Picard did so again, but it also looks like nothing will come of it.
Picard, what a shit show. 3 completely disconnected seasons with 3 completely separate agendas. It's the only show I can say "just watch season 3, you'll be fine".
Yep. I still don't understand how they thought it'd be a good idea to remake Battlestar Galactica 1984 in season 2.

Stargate Atlantis
Stargate Universe.
SEASON 1 did the series in, too much boring drama, not enough aliens or tech episodes. i heard season 3 was more juicy if they had continued, more background on the planet builders.
also SGA was going to the same route if it had 6 seasons.
Rings of Power .... how the fuck has it not happened, yet?

Santa Clarita Diet. I just liked the characters, the actors have some real strong performances, and the plot was going down some interesting paths with the society of zombie hunters.

It was a polarizing show, but my sci-fi heart loved it. Also the intro music was hauntingly beautiful.

Edit: Almost forgot about Day 5. It was a Rooster Teeth webseries and some of that showed in the script and acting, tbh. But holy shit it was such a cool premise. Big mad that I'll probably never find out wtf happens to that world.

Westworld. It was the final sason, had already been renewed, was already in pre-production, and they paid all the actors. But new management trashed it for a tax writeoff

I watched it well after it stopped airing and went in completely blind. I'm glad I did because I never would have watched it had I known it was dropped.
My disappointment that it was cancelled and without even the typical half-assed conclusion to the story is immeasurable, but it left me with a lot more sympathy and understanding towards fans of other series that met similar fates like Firefly.
