Well finally, i live just in time for my already unstable region to have a full blown war. Just what we needed.

Israel has nukes and iran can make them in weeks, nothing could go wrong! ^/s^

I'm unironically very worried right now, i live between them and am horrified of a full regional war, or worse; nuclear war.

Thank you. I don't know the exact implications currently, but i don't need research to know this is really, really bad for the region.

You are welcome. This was something that troubled me all night, last evening. Please try to lmk updates/safety when reasonable.

When did Iran get nuclear weapons?

[–] fxomt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Iran's nuclear program is one of the most scrutinized nuclear programs in the world. While the Islamic Republic of Iran claims its program is for peaceful purposes, it has developed nuclear technologies that provide it the capability to develop a nuclear weapon within weeks if it decides to do so

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_program_of_Iran

They still have the ability to make them in a matter of just weeks. I got it wrong in my comment so i'll correct it, but it's still concerning.

And since they have had significantly less oversight on that program for the last seven years, thanks to - checks notes- DONALD FUCKING TRUMP, I would be absolutely gobsmacked if the weeks it would take weapons development from the "within weeks" estimate, had not already transpired fucking years ago.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago

They've either already made them or are truthful about not wanting to make them.

Driving the news: Sirens sounded across Israel on Thursday night. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a special state of emergency across the entire country.

"Following the State of Israel's preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the state of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future," Katz said.

Who would have guessed Israel would surprise attack another country and then immediately play the victim...

I will be draft dodging. I'm not going to fight in the next war on peace.

I'll be here at home. Fucking military wives.

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 2 points 2 days ago

I'd protest your own governement rather than enlisting

Shut up and raise my son bootlicker.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 4 points 2 days ago

The bootlickers are staying home, too. The ones whose wives you are allegedly fucking are wearing the boots.

You assume just because they're lonely that they'll want your company.

I don't know what will happen but if the US had fullthroatedly supported this I think we might have locked in WW3 like fuckkk "dodged a bullet" is the wrong phrase, more like adjacent timeline vertigo?

edit can we get independent verification of this? As of yet I can't find any other news websites saying this.

edit 2 thank you for links!

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Idk, the US full throated supporting Israel is fighting against the innate urge for trump to rat fuck any ally possible.....

Tbh it seems like a 50/50, based on the article the administration seems to be trying to distance themselves from the event. Pulling personnel out of Iraq and warning allies of the attack may be good news. Hopefully we may have just witnessed Bibi overstepping the line for the last time?

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is this in whole or part because Iran was threatening to leak secrets? If in part, is that just the pretext to doing it, anyway? Are Bibi troubles at home secondary to "I just wanted to do this?”

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago

I don't know, its just things keep happening that seem very scary, kind of rushed and strangely not synchronized with a wave of similar acts in a way I would expect from a coup in the US and Israel drawing the US into a regional war.

It seems like a hail mary, not a confident move by Netanyahu.

Reputable German newspaper Die Zeit is also reporting this. Though it’s only a short temporary message.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 8 points 2 days ago

Yes please Israel, start some more wars, keep extending yourself, especially against better equipped adversaries

[–] Barberserk@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Americans, don't support this war, go out on the streets, rebel! Without you, Israel is nothing.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 7 points 2 days ago

That’s why US troops were getting out of the way, makes sense now.
