Easily 'The Rock'. Nick Cage AND the final (non canon) 007 story all in one? YES PLEASE!

[–] weariedfae@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago

Finally!! This movie NEVER comes up but I absolutely love Peggy Sue Got Married (1986). Fucking classic and he's great in it.

Okay he's not the lead but he's like the main co-star.

Love love love this movie

Dunno about favourite but I recently watched the surfer and it kinda hit a weird spot I didn't know I have. Was pretty good.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

8mm. So gritty and seems like it could really happen

[–] Clbull@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was pretty damn good.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago

Raising Arizona by miles for me

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Next (2007) was quite good actually.

[–] meekah@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I also remember it fondly but I'm not sure it would hold up nowadays.. Have you watched it recently?

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Not that recently I'm afraid. But I remember that I was really curious how the story plays out and while it wasn't groundbreaking it was a satisfying twist end.

Not your regular Hollywood happy end.

[–] meekah@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah that's true for sure.

[–] PhaseLocked@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago

Deadfall holds that place for me. His role is absolutely insane.

[–] JakenVeina@midwest.social 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not one single mention for Gone in Sixty Seconds?

Lemmings... do I have bad taste?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adaptation_(film)

It was weird and sometimes I like a good weird

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Face/Off. Golden desert eagles, Nic Cage at his cagiest, John Travolta and Nic Cage swapping bodies, legitimately great action scenes, and Nic Cage grabbing a woman's ass while wearing a priest costume. Just an incredible movie.

[–] vrighter@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 8 hours ago

overactors trying to out-overact each other. Love it!

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Kickass is the best surprise nic cage film.
Lord of war is the best serious cage.
Bangkok dangerous is the most cage being cage film.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Best surprise for me was Linglegs. Took a while to figure out who that actor was.

[–] General_Effort@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Honorable mention for 8mm. It isn't a good movie, unless you go for the very 1999 aesthetics. But I'll give a shout-out to that quote delivered by Joaquin Phoenix: "If you dance with the devil, the devil don't change. The devil changes you."

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 5 points 1 day ago

Wild at Heart

[–] General_Effort@lemmy.world 38 points 2 days ago (8 children)

Lord of War

Here's the intro to Lord of War. I love the little smirk he pulls off at about 45s.

[–] WildPalmTree@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Shame about the real world parts. Ruins it for me these days.

[–] urda@lebowski.social 10 points 1 day ago

Lord of War is a work of art

It's a toss up between Con Air's bonkers accent and Drive Angry's William Fitchner.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Rock. I'll be taking no further questions.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Carla was the prom queen

How in the actual fuck has no one said Face/Off?

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That was Travolta playing both roles

The Color Out of Space, I think he does really well in that and it's scary as fuck.

The Wicker Man, because of the scene with the bees is priceless.

And of course, Mandy. I will not elaborate further, just watch it.

The Rock and Con Air are tied for me. Con Air's cast is star studded and Nic Cage with a southern accent is fantastic.

"Put the Bunny back in the box."

Con Air ... why? No clue, I would have thought I'd go with Lord of War, but Con Air immediately popped into my head when I read the question, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pig, amazing film with a very subtle performance. The scene at the restaurant is absolutely brutal yet without any violence.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

Pig is a masterclass in not telling the audience more than they absolutely need to know. I've gotten so sick of movies where the dialog repeats itself for the benefit of people who weren't paying attention thirty seconds ago, or else it constantly spells out stuff that rightly ought to be conveyed by the actions of the characters. Pig is the antithesis of that. Characters hardly say anything that they don't need to say, and everything else is left to the viewer to figure out. I fucking love it.

[–] steeznson@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I loved the bait and switch where all the marketing suggested it would be a John Wick rip off but the movie turned out to be a lot more original

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (8 children)

"The color from outer space"

His slow descent into madness is great. It's like him turning the Cage knob very slowly from 0 to 11.

Also imo the best Lovecraft adaption.

Edit: "Color out of Space" is the correct title. Thanks to the commenter below.

Raising Arizona

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Con Air, hooray for the sounds of fucking silence!

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I laughed my arse off at 'The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent'. A classic farce like you don't get much these days.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

This is actually the only Nic Cage movie I like because I can't stand him, but my love for Pedro outweighs my dislike for Nic Cage.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It's weird how polarising he is. I wouldn't say I'm a 'fan' as such, but I do think he's one of the most remarkable and fun to watch actors ever. Every role he puts in 1000%.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Oh I agree 100%. I know I said I can't stand him and that's true, I generally don't like to watch his movies, but full respect to whatever the fuck it is he is doing.

The other one I like with him is Willy's Wonderland, but he doesn't say a single word in it so that might help with the tolerance. (The movie is just well done in general too)

[–] Glitch@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

Adaptation.

It's got twice as many Nick's, and the Tiger King getting Maryl Streep addicted to drugs

[–] kubok@fedia.io 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Another vote for Raising Arizona, although it is a close tie with Wild at Heart.
