FIFA sucks and always has

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I mean FIFA kinda thrives on, if not racism, nationalism. I mean sports in general tend to gear thinking in that way. Not always to a problematic level but anyone with family or friends who super into sports knows what I'm saying here

Us vs them mentality

[–] Naich@lemmings.world 44 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

So either racism has gone away or FIFA is A-OK with it now.

How are they supposed to play soccer when FIFA has no balls?

They've always been OK with it, now it's just mask off.

Ah yes FIFA. Happy to talk about inclusivity while it's good for pr and ad revenue. But as soon as it inconveniences their corrupt buddies suddenly it will get you a fine or ban. Can an organization be more blatantly corrupt? Maybe the IOC?

From "No racism" to "No "no racism"": America's great again!!!

[–] Airowird@lemm.ee 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Please, learn from Lionel Hutz, it's supposed to be "No, racism!"

[–] hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 minutes ago

Maybe they're speaking Polish. "No to rasizm" translates to "Well, racism it is!"

Obviously it's for the US where everything "DEI" is evil. They're just adapting to the WC guest country.

This reminded me that this clip exists.

For comparison: Brazil had to suspend its law that forbids alcohol on stadiums for the 2014 World Cup.

[–] jjpamsterdam@feddit.org 2 points 1 hour ago

As it turns out, it really didn't have to. Brazil simply respected agreements instead of unilaterally reneging on them at short notice. If the World Cup ever comes to Brazil again, I'd recommend pulling a Qatar and just nodding along until two weeks before the tournament starts and then just changing the rules according to what you believe is correct.
