Elon Musk declared on X the formation of a new political party amid his ongoing feud with President Donald Trump over the "Big Beautiful Bill."

"Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom," Musk wrote in an X post on Saturday.

The Tesla CEO had said Friday on his social media platform that one way the new party could work is to focus on winning just a handful of Senate seats and House districts that could serve as the "deciding vote" on "contentious laws," given the "razor-thin legislative margins" in Congress.

In response, Trump said on his Truth Social platform on Sunday that Musk had gone "completely off the rails."

I really want to know what my parents think about this. Because they fucking LOVE Elon Musk and voted Trump because of him.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Get them equally strong and face them at each other.

[–] Draedron@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 10 hours ago

Does he call it the "National Super Dope American Party"?

[–] prototact@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 hours ago

The only explanation for this is that Trump basically milked Musk's popularity with dumb people and kept him around until Musk was no longer useful. Musk on the other hand thought he was going to control Trump to be a shadow president on his crazy drug-induced power trip but got a reality check and now his ego is hurt and is making a fuss. I doubt this will gain any traction, to build a political party is extremely expensive, Reps and Dems have hundreds of rich people behind them for greasing the wheels, plus brand recognizability and organized people and community presence. The most we can tell from this is that billionaires still need a political front to push their agenda and see how many times can Musk fail without losing his fortune.

I really hate the term 'freedom' now. It's thrown around so much and it means basically nothing anymore. "Join this! Now with 20% more freedom!". Freedom to/from what? It's never stated, it's just a vibe.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 3 points 13 hours ago

It's been like that for decades now, going back at least to George W. Bush saying that Al Qaeda "hates us for our freedoms".

[–] 13igTyme@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Just make some fucking basic ass product, call it freedom or patriot and overcharge for it. Boom profit.

Like this dipshit.

Let it be known, now and forevermore, that floo is not an enemy of SatansMaggotyCumFart. Spread the news far and wide.

I think I only have two enemies on here and one of them is @Nougat@fedia.io.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If I am your enemy, it is only because you have selected me so.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Nougat@fedia.io 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Epistemologically speaking, I don't, because I can't.

Going back a few comments, I can only say that I am flattered that such a celebrity would not only know who I am, but actually call me out on a completely unrelated thread that I was not already participating in.

Happy cake day to my favorite cum fart.

Let it also be known that multiple things can be inferred from the previous statement, each ickier than the last.

This shit is cracking me up. I don't know what's going on between them but I wish them the best friendship.

Please split the right-wing vote. Please

[–] orclev@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It will almost certainly pull some votes from Trump but whether that's enough to make a difference or not will depend on if the DNC can get out of the way long enough to find a candidate anybody actually wants to vote for or if they'll run another "we'll change nothing and you'll like it" candidate.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

if they’ll run another “we’ll change nothing and you’ll like it” candidate.

Newsom is already prepping for that role.

To be honest, they both got off the rails long, long ago.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The right finally gets a Jill Stein. Good luck with that.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean in fairness, they've always had Jill Steins. We can bitch about the spoiler effect and yell at our guys for voting, but election after election when you look at people focusing the blame on the greens when we lose, liberterians and other right wing parties, always have more votes than left wing 3rd parties.

Also sadly it sounds like musk is actually planning to do the strategic right way to do a new party. IE focus on house and senate seats to basically to threaten narrow votes.

In short it sounds more like he's making the republican's "Manchins".

[–] 13igTyme@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Even senate and house seats are a big step. The best way would be your local state senate, house, and mayoral positions. This is the best way to build a grassroots movement and get more people on your side.

[–] pawnfuture@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I have entertained the idea that Musk hacked the vote tabulations. If it's true, Trump would lose his mind knowing his one and only richman was hacking for someone else now.

Pot and kettle at odds of blackness

[–] Laser@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

Kettles aren't black, they're metallic, and when the pot calls the kettle black, it only sees its own reflection. But both Musk and Trump are turds. No need for reflection

He's not wrong, there are people disillusioned with both parties. But if Elon thinks we're all idiots, and will flock to other nazi party, I've got a bridge to sell him.

Maybe some of the center right, and magas who've been personally wronged by the Trumpsters will swing that way, but he's gonna find the left isn't quite as stupid as he thinks.

Split the vote ding dong, go on, do it. I dare you.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 1 points 15 hours ago

If someone else had started a third party, it might have pulled support from both parties. But, I think there aren't many democrats who will join his party after he did so much to get Trump elected, then worked for his government for a while.

I hope he throws billions at this project, because IMO the only thing it might do is fracture the GOP base.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

but he's gonna find the left isn't quite as stupid as he thinks.

I wish I shared your optimism. Nothing in my experience of life tells me that betting on the left, especially their elected representatives, to not do something stupid is a good plan.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

By "left" I'm assuming you mean liberals. "The left" doesn't really have elected politicians. Unless you count Mamdani and he's not even fully elected yet.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Liberals are what passes for the left here, yes.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 19 hours ago

Leftists are socialists, the left is relative. I don't understand why this is so hard for people to get.

[–] thallamabond@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is not a political party, it is something else.

A component of a political platform is often called a plank – the opinions and viewpoints about an individual topic, as held by a party, person, or organization. The word "plank" depicts a component of an overall political platform, as a metaphorical reference to a basic stage made of boards or planks of wood

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_platform

Platforms are built with planks, Elon has no platform.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 16 points 1 day ago

The right-wing political power machine has been running on vibes instead of sincerely held beliefs for a while now.

People who like Musk better than Trump will just make up bullshit about both to justify their choice.
