Because the titles are missing the features, here's the full titles from Babymetal's wiki:

01. from me to u (feat. Poppy)
02. RATATATA (BABYMETAL x Electric Callboy)
03. Song 3 (BABYMETAL x Slaughter to Prevail)
04. Kon! Kon! (feat. Bloodywood)
05. KxAxWxAxIxI
06. Sunset Kiss (feat. Polyphia)
07. My Queen (feat. Spiritbox)
08. Algorism
09. METALI!! (feat. Tom Morello)
10. White Flame -白炎-

I particularly love "RATATATA" and "from me to u".

I'll definitely give it a spin, but that many features is a red flag IMO.

Red flag how? I look at it like they're paying it forward. Babymetal wasn't exactly accepted with open arms, but so many artists stood up for them at the time of metal fans outcry, and now that Babymetal has achieved a fair bit of recognition, they're willing to collaborate with a lot of artists which aren't necessarily bigger than they are. The red flag flag should've been all of the posers trying to limit Babymetal to a box.

A ton of features often (not always) means either:

  • Artists feel pressured to release something but don't think they can write good enough songs at the moment
  • Management thinks the artist needs some help to stay relevant by attaching a lot of big or currently more trendy names to the songs

I partly agree, I mean, lots of features is an easy escape from writing a full album. But "White Flame" imo shows that Babymetal are still on the track to evolve from j-pop.

I've really enjoyed seeing some of the collabs pop up on Youtube over the last couple of months. I was surprised and really pleased by the Bloodywood collab, and I thought it was really cool that they had Bloodywood opening for them on their US tour. Haven't dived into the album proper, yet, but I'll give it a listen soon.

I was looking forward to the Spiritbox collaboration as well, but there's not nearly enough Courtney LaPlante on it, or well, the Poppy one got a lot more love at least in comparison.

I wasn't aware they were dropping this today. Thanks for the heads up, I'll give it a listen later today.
