Women only trans inclusive This is an inclusive community for all things women. Whether you're here for make up tips, feminism or just friendly chit chat, we've got you covered.

Rules…

  1. Women only… trans women are women, and transphobic or gender critical talk isn’t allowed. Anyone under the trans umbrella (e.g. non-binary, bigender, agender) is free to decide whether a women's community is a good fit for them.
  2. Don’t be a dick. No personal attacks, no aggression, play nice.
  3. Don’t hate on groups, hatefilled talk about groups is not allowed. Ever.
  4. No governmental politics, so no talk of Trump actions etc. We recommend Feminism@beehaw.org for that, but here is an escape from it.
  5. New accounts or users with few comments may have their posts removed to prevent spam and bad-faith participation.

It was amongst the most egalitarian movies I’ve ever seen. It showed not just the womens’ perspectives but the mens’ as well, failings included. What a limited perspective

Also, Ken was awesome. They didn't make him the antagonist

His cowboy patriarchy bit was perfect

hi friend, this community is women-only and has a rule that only women are permitted to comment or post, so I have to ask that you not make any further comments.

Hope you understand, thank you 💛

Understandable, I didn’t realize I was intruding.

Edit: I promise I wasn’t trying to be cheeky

"A pink acid trip that feels like being slapped by lots of confusingly attractive people" is not that far from my very positive perception of the movie.

No kink shaming please.

That's what I thought. I haven't seen it, but have seen snips of it; seems to be an accurate and positive description. Best part is, it doesn't last for 9 hrs if you gotta stuff to do later.

It is very camp

The main feminist criticism of the movie is that it showed a conflict between a matriarchal hierarchical society in Barbie land and a patriarchal society in the real world. It never even attempted to broach the possibility of a non hierarchal egalitarian society.

That being said it created an interesting contrast and explored some harmful aspects of the patriarchy and hierarchal thinking in an entertaining way.

The silliness of the sexism in Barbie land did point more aware viewers towards the direction that a matriarchy doesn't fix the problems inherent in hierarchical systems of dominance.

That was the annoying thing about the movie to me. They had a chance to show off a truly egalitarian society, where everyone really worked together. Instead, it kinda ended the barbieland scenes on a sour note, taking a shot at men. Which I get, but I don't think that zero sum thinking should be the ending note of the film (excluding the comedy bits at the end of course).

I wanted the director to show off where our society should go, the same way that Bluey can serve as a good cultural reference point for healthy relationships and families.

Neither the movie industry nor the toy industry are allied to woman. In fact, capitalism is what sustains most forms of opression against woman

Dangerous and like being on an acid trip? I wish I was as cool as a lot of these men seem to think I am.

I know, it's just so flattering. Sadly I'm still waiting for the day someone calls me a feminazi...

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"they wont be happy until they are all gay"

yes pls

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yep I'm 100% down with this. Sperm donors will make procreation work, we can do this

[–] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 months ago

Queer people can have offspring with sex sometimes. It depends on various factors, but it's not impossible.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I haven't watched it yet and everything I hear about it makes me want to more...

[–] lusterko0@kbin.earth 4 points 2 months ago

I guess I'll watch the movie

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 months ago

I just thought the movie was boring
