U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agrees with him that letting voters send in ballots by mail puts honest elections at risk.

"Vladimir Putin, smart guy, said you can't have an honest election with mail-in voting," Trump told Fox News Channel's "Hannity" after a nearly three-hour meeting between the leaders in Alaska. "He said there's not a country in the world that uses it now."

HEY TRUMP, PUTIN SAYS RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

We don' care. Show us the Epstein files. We know you wont because you know what you have done. All these women are not lying. I doubt any of them are.

When you think it's the onion, but it's real life instead

[–] Naevermix@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Good for him, I'm glad he has such a supportive daddy.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Who the fuck cares what Putin thinks about anything?

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Other dictators. They care more about each other than their own people.

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Right? In a way, though, i do kinda care: if Putin says it is bad, it’s probably good.

And what do the people want?

Political figures have forgotten that they are supposed to represent all of their constituents.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 day ago

What a fucking demented weakling.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Weakling asks for permission.

[–] tomkatt@lemmy.world 38 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We don't give a fuck what Putin thinks. He's the example of what not to do.

[–] johncandy1812@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

The US declared on Friday that they were now allied with Russia and the response from the media was that Trump appeared "weak". We can't even acknowledge reality.

[–] Darleys_Brew@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago

Remember when USAians were terrified of the Russians.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Postal voting isn't a secret ballot so there is concern wherever people aren't entitled to a private residence of their own. However the accessibility and the presence of paper ballots for recounts (which reduces conflict and increases trust) is such a larger social insurance.

Its obvious why free countries embrace mail in ballots especially in a heavily rural country like the US.

[–] zeca@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Secret ballots are really important. There should be an effort into making in person voting more accessible and ending postal voting imo. Not american though, but i know my country historically had a very big problem of people being coerced to vote for certain candidates. The vote now is secret, spreaded all around the country and public transportation is free on voting days, which are on weekends.

[–] slingstone@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh! Well, if Putler says it, I guess it's right, then.

Trump is such a bitch.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

My question is why the fuck would Trump and Putin be talking about elections during a negotiation for peace for a country being attacked who isn't even present.

[–] dermanus@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Because Trump can't stay on one subject for more than about 30 seconds. He was probably rambling while Putin nodded along.

[–] johncandy1812@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Why would Putin get a red carpet treatment from the US in the first place? Putin and Trump announced to the world they are now allies.

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Two obituaries I can't wait to read.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Kinda bummed nobody tried something. In a country with so many guns you think there would a single rebel in this death star of a country. Not even some rogue canadian.

[–] carlossurf@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

More like puttin has some nice dirt on trump

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Something about a guy with an island ...

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 62 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Who gives an actual fuck about how Putin thinks the US ought to do things?

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

Putin also thinks that it's okay to jail your opponents in an election. I bet Trump doesn't mind that idea either.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Just Trump. It's always just Trump.

[–] breecher@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

The US government obviously does.

Fucking traitor.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Well then he can fuck off to Russia

[–] Guitarfun@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

I miss the days when politicians and presidents at least tried to hide their corruption and shady dealings.

[–] phorq@lemmy.ml 209 points 2 days ago (3 children)

You know Putin, the king of honest elections...

"He said there's not a country in the world that uses it now."

Yes, blindly listen to what Putin says and ignore all the countries that do have working mail in voting.

[–] RedPostItNote@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Russia has mail in voting lol

[–] howrar@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

That's... actually surprisingly few. I thought it would be more common.

I thought they were there to discuss the Ukraine War? How did they get to mail in ballots?

Also, why the fuck would the US care what Putin thinks of how the US elections are run?

Taking advice from Putin on "an honest election". Trump is openly looking to take away people's rights.

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 58 points 2 days ago

This means we absolutely SHOULD have mail-in voting. Basically take anything putin and drump say and do the opposite and you'll be correct.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 61 points 2 days ago
[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 45 points 2 days ago

Wow. Trump (Krasnov) pushing usa policy with advice (orders) from Putin! Holy shit!

[–] Valthorn@feddit.nu 110 points 2 days ago (12 children)

"He said there's not a country in the world that uses it now."

Sweden does, and probably other EU contries aswell.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 74 points 2 days ago (11 children)

Canada does, and all we have to do is request a ballot be mailed to us (in or out of country).

Oh, I'm sure that motherfucking PUTIN agrees with Taco on that. How can you scare and intimidate voters if they are able to safely vote from home?

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago

Vladimir Putin said that voting in general is putting honest elections at risk.

[–] llama@lemmy.zip 23 points 2 days ago

Maybe because Russia barely has a functioning road system to even get the votes mailed?

tankiegrad.ml approves

[–] Mandog@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago

I don't give a fuck what Putin, or Trump for that matter, says. Fuck them both. They're lying as usual.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 92 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Just to provide some non-sarcastic comments mail-in voting is a source of liberty and democracy for the citizens of the United States. It is a stalwart safeguard against being bullied and harassed at the polls.
