The Board of Immigration Appeals has ordered Emmy-award winning journalist Mario Guevara to be deported to El Salvador, a country he fled more than two decades ago after being persecuted for his reporting.

Emmys for his reporting in the USA btw.

The judge who granted Guevara bond in July wrote that he “has a history of following the laws of the United States, as he legally entered the U.S. with a B1 visa, he has employment authorization and a social security number so that he can legally work in the United States, and he has a history of paying his taxes.”

(...) The government has argued that Guevara “is a danger to the community because Mr. Guevara had ‘on five separate occasions … recorded or live streamed’ law enforcement officers and ‘post[ed] videos of undercover agents, their vehicles, and tag numbers,’” as per Guevara’s petition. “The Government further states that ‘[l]ocal law enforcement reviewed the respondent’s public posts and learned that the videos were viewed by hundreds of thousands of people.’”

He's more popular than us! Not fair!

Today marks Guevara’s 100th day in detention.

That's awful. One of my my most hated related phrases is "Veteran with honorable discharge deported." Still trying to wrap my head around that. One of them was even discharged after taking a bullet to his spine.

One of them was even discharged after taking a bullet to his spine.

You mean deported?

Eventually, yeah. He was honorably discharged, got hooked on prescription opioids, got cut off, resorted to crime to maintain his supply, got caught and then deported. A regular citizen would just have gotten prison time and then release.
