Some hand warmes with an owl cable stitch I finished recently. I didn't have much of a pattern, so I hope this post is still allowed.

Basically, I went off this picture for the owl/kable knit pattern and used some pattern for gloves to get the thumbs right.

I was thinking about maybe adding french knot stitches as eyes to make the owls more prominent, but I think I like the plain version better.

Very pretty! I love how the owl blends but once you see it it’s clearly there! Perfect camouflage!

So neat and pretty! I like how it comes up the arms, keeps ya warmer. (p.s. I like the plain version better tooπŸ˜‰)

Thank you, they are definetly quite warm! I guess I'll keep them as they are then 😁

What was the point of making these? Owls don't have hands!

(they look hella nice btw)

Oh my gosh, this is incredible. I've got far too many projects on the go at the moment, and I'm only a novice knitter, so I probably won't get to this any time soon, but I am saving this post for future reference; I have a friend who would adore this as a gift.

What pattern did you use for the gloves? I've been debating doing a simple pair of hand warmers for myself, and that seems like it would be good practice.

Glad you like them :) I used this pattern for the glove, however it is in German. There were some patterns in English I just looked up which seem to be somewhat similar (like these for example).

Did not know about these but like the gloves where you have the pop on and off the mitten thing with fingerless gloves. Wife bought these for herself but did not like them. I love them. Easier and better to have real mittens and pop them off with these and like with scarves its massive to have layers where the ends don't align so cold air can't slip in. Sorta wish the finger holes were stitched up or even just one or two so that it would not slip down.

Beautiful! I'm madly jealous of anyone who can just ad hoc a pattern, that's like magic to me.

Thank you! I had to redo a couple of rows because I wasn't happy with the cable placement relative to the rib stitches and to get the owl proportions right, though. And I think having done gloves before helped the most :)

Very lovely! I like your inspiration photo. I'm a fan of orange, and the little bead eyes add a nice hint of flair.

Your pair came out great as well! I only learned to knit basic scarves.

I love the color and the stitch work looks perfect!

I thought this was superbowl for a sec! Nice work!

Damn as someone who constantly have cold hands, definitely want. Looks great too!

Thanks, they do keep you really warm, can recommend 😊

Oh wow, they’re lovely!

I really like the ring cables and the owl motif. Cabling makes some of the nicest patterns and I don't do enough of it. I was wondering what made it "owl" at first; My initial impression was a pineapple with the seed(?) stitch in the body πŸ˜… I do like how the beaded eyes pop in the reference, and I'm curious what some color work could do, but the single color does look more elegant I think.

Going with no pattern and just kind of "doing it" is honestly my favorite. It's so rewarding to look at something and recreate it intuitively.

I lied, it's either that or going "freehand" and sort of designing as you go. Or taking a unique/complex pattern and teasing it apart to adapt it or make variations. Now I can't decide lol

I can see the pineapple impression πŸ˜„ You are right, it's a seed stitch for the body.

It definetly was fun to just start and see how it works out (although I wished I had made some more comprehensive notes while knitting the first warmer; that would have been helpful in getting the second one to turn out similarly πŸ™ˆ)

Those look great and I bet they're very comfortable as the weather turns.
