Thwre is a running joke that Dutch just sounds like German but drunk.
I always think that Dutch just sounds like somebody speaking English in another room being heard through a wall.
The rhythm and cadence of the language just seems to match English much better than it does say French.
At one point in the evening Klingon would probably work too

how bad/ apparent is it? I don't use it but still frequently see that ppl do quite often have it
I've been using it for a while and it's gotten really bad. Sentences are grammatically incorrect in my native language that I am supposed to trabslate to. So if e.g. the exercise is to translate from new language to my native language, the correct answer is marked as false and instead I have to type a sentence that's wrong in my language.
Also the sentences you practice with have gotten really absurd.
Damn, I've been avoiding it, good to see that was a good decision (also, a language learning discord server I'm in has a channel for Duolingo help that's basically just "don't use Duolingo" lol)
I mean it has nsver been really useful to learn a language. You learn no grammar rules, no long texts or dialogues. I just used it for vocabulary training which it was ok for.
Yeah, it's impossible to learn a language from a single resource/app

But Luxembourg is the capital of Belgium which is a province of the Netherlands

The flag is correct because it belongs to the province referred to by locals as Zuid Holland

Every time I see Dutch, my brain tries to interpret it as English or German. I often spend a few moments making sure I don't smell burnt toast before I realize it's Dutch
Because they are real fake languages.
