Violent convicts with fresh PTSD loose on the streets. Sounds like they're bringing a little war home, just as a treat. Not seeing the problem?
Joking aside, my ex-wife wasn't autistic but still clueless as to other's emotions, zero social skills, worked at Navy Federal Credit Union (largest in the world, not just US Navy or servicemen. Funny enough, my current wife works there.) She'd come home crying after talking to the guys home from Afghanistan and Iraq.
Those men were/are fucking wrecked. They couldn't understand the simplest things, couldn't handle elementary arithmetic, angry and scared, half-assed deaf. When their wives called in it was worse because the husband was mentally or physically incapable of making a fucking customer service call.
I had never seen that woman cry over her own problems, let alone cry over others.
Worked with some young(ish) combat vets at Lowe's last spring. Those guys are physically and mentally wrecked. Heard one man talking to another about how fucked it is to have your buddy dead in your lap in the back of the evac chopper and you couldn't have saved him.
Yeah, I spun on my heel having walked up to that. Nothing in my life story to contribute. Had mild PTSD twice, not counting twice saving my own life. Goons robbing 5lbs. of weed at knife point in my living room, on Christmas Eve, just doesn't quite compare now does it? Fuck me, I cried for two decades over a puppy I had to mercy kill. (I'm over it now. Still a little wiggy about the bear incident.)
Both those men appear perfectly fit. At 54, 140lbs. dripping wet, light emphysema, functional alcoholic, I was physically on par with these younger men. And both of them were fighting the VA for any sort of benefits. "Not service related." is the key word.
All that to say, if that's the American combat experience, long before tiny, flying, explosive robots were a thing, imagine what Russian troops are bringing home. Damn. Never thought I'd feel sorry for Russians.
