this should really fall on the courts to enforce the hatch act & give laws governing officials more teeth.. this is insane 1984 level shit

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

The fucking Maggats are like a clown version of the NAZIs, trying to ape their practices whilst being total incompetent klutzes at doing it.

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 minutes ago

It would be hilarious if america wasn't fucking stupid enough to fall for it. Every. Damn. Time.

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 35 points 9 hours ago

“This is probably not a Hatch Act violation, because it's not tied to an election,” Cynthia Brown, senior ethics counsel at the non-partisan ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), told Forbes.

Not tied to an election? What? What rock are you living under?

[–] notannpc@lemmy.world 29 points 10 hours ago

It should be all of them. Get that fascist propaganda out of here.

[–] selkiesidhe@sh.itjust.works 39 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Good god, the morons in office right now are so fucking stupid. They have to make videos to put out and blame the left for all the dumb shit they do. They did it! They did it! Despite having the minority in all branches of the gov, it's totally them.

Fuck off fascists

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 10 hours ago

The video isn't for us.

It's for their followers.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 85 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Since when do airports show government propaganda?

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 49 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

When the people that operate them are all in. This is what Fascism is, when people want to give them their power.

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 25 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Since Fox "News" has been running nonstop on monitors throughout airports for decades.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 115 points 14 hours ago

As well they should.

The Confederates are breaking the law, again.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 124 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

the Hatch Act is only as effective as the White House decides it will be

Lovely

[–] salacious_coaster@infosec.pub 29 points 12 hours ago

Same as the Sherman and Clayton anti-trust acts, which is a big reason why we're here now. So, so much of corporate America is patently illegal, and the feds have done fuck-all about it for decades.

[–] RumorsOfLove@lemmy.dbzer0.com 84 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

... And all the other airports in the country broadcast it?

[–] WHARRGARBL@lemmy.world 100 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

It looks like they have capitulated, for now. It wouldn’t hurt to contact your local airport to object, and to organize peaceful demonstrations.

The airports that refuse to bend the knee have also released public statements condemning the video. Let’s show them our support! They are:

Portland International

Seattle-Tacoma International

Buffalo Niagara International

Niagara Falls International

Westchester County

[–] SacralPlexus@lemmy.world 48 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Spokane international is on the list as well which is a little surprising as that is an area that favors Republicans in elections.

[–] WHARRGARBL@lemmy.world 48 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Thank you for the Spokane update, SacralPlexus! Also adding:

Charlotte

Cleveland

Los Angeles

Phoenix

Denver

Aspen

Glad to hear Denver isn't doing it. It's bad enough that these evil pieces of shit are pushing government propaganda, but there is no reason that major airports in blue states should go along with it.

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Hell yeah Denver! Fucking love this state.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago

Same thing. I hope it stays blue. I know a few Taco-lovers that moved out of state because of all the "wokeness". Pretty fucking weird reason to be moving, if you ask me.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

They didn't capitulate. The decision maker wanted to do it.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 20 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I'd love to see a real instance of "The Storm" if Democrats were to get back in the WH....issue warrants for every single one of those responsible for shit like this.

Arrest every single one of those in his cabinet. Arrest everyone in his family.

I know the pearl-clutching "centrists" will cry about "tone" and "civility" and how this is only going to make Republicans worse. Fuck that. Make Republicans motherfucking SCARED to try this kind of shit again. As they should be.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 4 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Huge if the democrats go back to the white house: it's time to reconciliation, time to leave the past past and to heal wounds * do nothing *

[–] callouscomic@lemmy.zip 21 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Whatever happened to the fucking Hatch Act?

[–] JakoJakoJako13@piefed.social 14 points 12 hours ago

Probably floating in some plastic container in the ocean with the rest of the rule of laws they threw out.

[–] Sibshops@lemmy.myserv.one 32 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

What is the Republicans end game here? Democrats aren't going to vote for his bill without getting anything in return. Why would anyone think otherwise.

[–] ReallyActuallyFrankenstein@lemmynsfw.com 37 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, Democrats have a history of terrible negotiations. I think republicans are correct that if they win the PR war democrats will fold, even if I wish it weren't so.

Historically, republicans take every opportunity to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, and democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

[–] hypna@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

They do, but I'm a little surprised by how well they've positioned themselves on this one. It seems to me that the most likely scenario is that the Republicans will give nothing on principal, the shutdown will go until November when the premiums increase, and the country will see that the Republicans would rather close the government for two months than spare them a doubling or tripling of their healthcare costs.

And all the while Trump trashes the government in an attempt to retaliate, without really understanding that the government provides services that people, his voters included, depend on. I'm not sure, "the Democrats made me do it," will save him with anyone other than his cult members.

I am cautiously optimistic.

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 32 points 14 hours ago

Have you ever known a child who could manipulate his parents by being stubborn and annoying. The parents are incapable of setting boundaries and caving to the child’s demands is easier than having difficult discussions.

Republicans are the children and Democrats are the patents. The parents are now trying to set a boundary. Expect an epic tantrum from the children.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

The goal is complete vilification. Then it's "won't someone please rid me of these troublesome Democrats".

[–] Sibshops@lemmy.myserv.one 7 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

They are already vilified by Republicans, so it isn't like they have anything to lose. If the Democrats cave, they will just be vilified by Democratic voters, too.

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 14 minutes ago* (last edited 13 minutes ago)

Yeah, you're right, the average republican voter thinks that democrats are vile, hateful, literally evil people that want to end their way of life... but they also can't point to something major is going to ruin their life in the next two months. Fuck with all those fools' health insurances, and every other service that's going to be sputtering in the gutter, and now you have the whole, "society is only [X] meals away from anarchy/revolution/chaos," AND you have the army of fools 'rising up' pointed at your political enemies for the thing they're now mad specifically about, rather than just generally.

It's also just part of their general faux news schtick: repeat the same thing, over and over. In this case, it's that democrats are the bad guys and at fault for everything. Can't let up the propaganda stream, or the people might start having independent thoughts in those heads. Maybe those thoughts would be that the republicans aren't on their side, or maybe that capitalism isn't benefiting any of them... so better keep it up.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

They want/need more vilification. The further they vilify, the further they can go on things like project 2025.

Eg you can say they vilified the left 10 years ago, but 10 years ago they wouldn't have gotten away with deploying the national guard. They get away with it now because of the last 10 years of vilifying even more. Now imagine what they'll be able to do in the next 5 to 10 years.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 14 points 14 hours ago

Is this the one where she’s cranking Lewandowski’s ridiculous stub with her grizzled paws?

No? Different video then. I mean she blames Democrats for both.

[–] grimpy@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 11 hours ago

“Don’t broadcast bad breath…”
