Top White House officials told a reporter, “Your mom,” when asked who picked the location for Donald Trump’s upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin.

Trump announced Thursday that he will soon meet with Putin in Budapest, Hungary, to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine. The choice has raised questions, because Putin is wanted by the International Criminal Court. However, Hungary appears unlikely to cooperate with the warrant and is in the process of leaving the court, the Associated Press reports.

When HuffPost asked the White House who chose the location for the meeting, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt replied, “Your mom did.” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung also followed up with, “Your mom,” the outlet reports.

Why is trump and gov so cringe and embarrassing? Ew

[–] Tryenjer@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I don't like conspiracy theories, but I'm going to put on my tinfoil hat and speculate that they all caught alien brain worms from RFK Jr.'s infection.

[–] Puddinghelmet@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Lmaooo fr 🙃 There’s another conspiracy theory about trump that Stephen Miller just locks him in a room with a screen playing nonstop AI slop videos about himself which now seems completely logical. It's why he's so confused that his reality isn't matching objective reality. Trump just watches AI videos.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago

Translation: Trump picked it.

[–] Carvex@lemmy.world 160 points 2 days ago (2 children)

They just keep remaining the classiest, mature adults in positions of power over others.

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 43 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They picked her because of her Christianities.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 35 points 2 days ago (1 children)

13 Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?” 14 But He answered him "Your Mom", so that the governor marveled greatly.

15 And ye, the onlookers clapped in awe

[–] RePsyche@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Mature, serious, on point. /s

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

WTF? Is America just a giant Middle School?

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 98 points 2 days ago (2 children)

So glad the most armed nation is history is run by such mature level headed adults.

Seriously, why does everything feel like fucking dumbass highschool bullies are running things? Was that Bowling for Soup song right??

[–] WhatsHerBucket@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

It feels like it, sadly because it’s true.

[–] drdalek@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

It is sad, and the people who made it happen are hiding. No more maga flags on trucks, don't see the hats around. They know what they did

Edit: my statement is obviously anecdotal and I am speaking for what I see daily. Experience may vary

[–] AugustWest@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Why do I see comments like this all over Lemmy? Do people like you ever go outside?

I’ve been traveling all over the south the last couple months, the MAGA folks are louder and prouder than ever.

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As a European, the U.S. is huge, is it really inconceivable that some people regret their choices and have left MAGA behind? That's a good thing ultimately, no?

Also even if it's not regret the social stigma may be enough to cow some of them back down.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

I haven't seen a trump flag, shirt or hat in like 6 months. Still see the bumper stickers occasionally.

Not the onion. Yikes. What a shit show

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 63 points 2 days ago (5 children)

What is it that makes 40 year old people think it's totally okay to behave like an 8 year old?

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 38 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I mean… Leavitt is 28… Hate makes you age like a smoker.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm a 45 year old smoker who regularly gets told that I look 25 by 20 somethings. Hate ages you faster than smoking.

[–] Houseman@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Her husband is 60.

It’s insane that someone around my age is in that position and acts like this in a professional setting.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Fascism

This is your brain on fascism.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Wow, so Idiocracy then.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trolls have taken over the White House.. time to stop feeding them.

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They have, but you can't expect journalists to not ask the administration questions. It is literally their job.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

There are tons of people in the white house they could call on or off the record. There is no reason to listen to Leavitts propaganda report on the regular. I am surprised they cover her as much as they do, I literally tune her out now because I know everything she says is a lie. Steven Miller is a ghoul, but even he is more honest about what they are doing... whether on purpose or Freudian slips...

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

She is the White House Press Secretary. She is literally the primary interface between the Whitehouse and the press, and you're arguing the press should not ask her questions and report on her statements?

This blaming the journalists for reporting what the White House Press Secretary says is really backwards.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

She certainly doesn't act like it.

If she had any modicum of honesty then that position would actually matter. It's like asking AI that has been trained to specifically avoid everyone's question, what's the point? I can predict her responses to every question with like over 90% accuracy, and when I am wrong it's because her response is a bizarre troll response like "your mom"

Hell even Trump is more honest than her, if for no other reason than his dementia.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's their job to get the shitty things they say on the record. That is important, too. I know it doesn't make anyone feel good but it still has to be done.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago

Reuters will be there, just get it from them if you need it.

[–] Heikki2@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Too bad women leaders are too emotional to be a true leader and we are left with, whatever this is. Its certainly not leadership.

[–] Red0ctober@lemmy.world 46 points 2 days ago

Lol, wasn't even a good burn. Karoline, you suck! Booooo!

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago

Really good opportunity for the reporter to say "My mother has dementia so I guess that tracks actually"

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

“Oh yeah? Well, the jerk store called, and they’re all out of you!”

[–] Viper_NZ@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 day ago

Hungary is a signatory to the Rome Statute and would legally have to arrest Putin if he set foot there…

But watch as they do nothing.

[–] WhatGodIsMadeOf@feddit.org 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

America is a pathetic shitty asshole.

Shoulda responded "Okay but, I am rubber and you are glue, so... Egg on your face!"

[–] RaoulDuke@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Or “my mom died of cancer you insensitive cunt!”

[–] Hylactor@sopuli.xyz 11 points 2 days ago

I bet this would likely cause her actual physical arousal. We're not dealing with well adjusted people here.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 12 points 2 days ago

Jesus Christ. These belligerent idiots.

[–] maxxadrenaline@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I love news articles like these because I get to say how useless yellow press has been to actual politics. Don’t get me wrong the GOP is nothing but yellower than our sun.

Get to telling the truth leavitt and you can say all the to momma jokes you want

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

And how's the slander lawsuit going?

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

That's what she said.
