Yeah it sucks when ADHD meds are illegal in my country. Caffeine isn’t as effective as it used to be

Caffeinated spite crew checking in. Tell me I can't, go on, tell me. I fucking will. Fuck you.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 8 hours ago

Caffeine does pretty much nothing for me

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 16 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Caffeine, anger, and anxiety…

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Only when the dead line is close though

[–] ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org 5 points 12 hours ago

You need pressure to create diamonds!

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 6 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Caffeine leads to anxiety

Anxiety leads to anger

Anger leads to the Dark Side

[–] causepix@lemmy.ml 3 points 9 hours ago

I've had so many people be surprised when I tell them caffeine gives me major anxiety...I thought it was common knowledge that it did that but apparently it's not. Glad to see some organic outside confirmation lol.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago

My favorite dark side is French Roast.

[–] SlyLycan@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Why caffeine? I have an ADHD assessment and for the first appointment that was one of the questions, if I drank caffeine and how much if so.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 2 points 5 hours ago

Because it is a stimulant that affects the brain stem thingy just like the real meds

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 9 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

Most people who seek professional help have at one time attempted to self-medicate to resolve their issues.

Stimulants are what you would self-medicate with for ADHD. Caffeine is a simulant.

Source: I used to drink up to 3 energy drinks per day to stay on task at work. It was literally killing me

[–] CurbCuts@lemmy.ca 3 points 13 hours ago

Also, when you don't know you have ADHD, when you forgt your meds, om the meds are not enough.

That's about the size of it.

You don't know the power of the dark side

[–] Whirling_Ashandarei@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Just gonna keep ignoring these increasingly relevant memes and move on, fuck you very much.

Real question: what kind of content do you expect from this community?

At its core, ADHD is just a vague, flexible list of symptom checkboxes that are part of the neurodivergent spectrum. Tick enough of the boxes, and you are considered ADHD. Tick enough of some other boxes, and you are considered autistic. Tick enough ADHD and autism boxes, and you're AuDHD.

The vast majority of people will tick at least one box from the neurodivergent list, this is what people mistakenly refer to as "everyone is a little bit autistic", and is why these memes can apply to a lot of people, or not apply to you at all as someone with an ADHD diagnosis.

Anyway, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

[–] Whirling_Ashandarei@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

Oh I'm just strolling on through from the equivalent of an "all" type page lol tho I guess maybe I should subscribe..

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 15 points 23 hours ago

That too is a symptom 😈

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 73 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Panic also works if anger isn’t available.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 30 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Okay but could we tone down the panic back to a more manageable level, like 9/10, instead of usual 28/10?

[–] GlitchyDigiBun@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

drinks my 4th cup of News Sorry what? Speak up. The panic attacks are loud.

Lots of caffeine to bring you up during the day and alcohol to slow the racing thoughts at night. It's no way to live.

Every once in a while I still encounter parents who are hesitant to get their ADHD kid on meds. I try to explain to them that it's not really about performance in school even if that's where it was first noticed.

It's about keeping them from killing themselves or engaging in incredibly self destructive behavior.

Wait, the anger is a thing related to adhd?

I always felt like somewhat of a nutcase for getting pissed off at stuff not working/going my way (shout at the pc until you figure out how to get the driver working again).

Jogging/biking: get pissed, the burning anger gets you through.

In an odd way anger manages to focus me but it’s just not a healthy way to live :/

Edit/Disclaimer: I never said I shout at people.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Nah. It affects impulse control.

Its good if you don't yell at your computer, healthy if you think that is a bit nuts. It makes people and yourself feel bad.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 1 points 2 hours ago

Again, I never said I shout at other people.

Why does everyone immediately draw that conclusion? I do that shit in private like any other decent nutcase thank you very much.

[–] porksnort@slrpnk.net 10 points 22 hours ago

Anger is a natural result of discovering that your natural abilities are routinely exploited and taken for granted but your needs that are a direct result of those same abilities will not be met.

My emotions are very well regulated, thank you. It is normal to feel anger when gaslit into thinking your normal human variation is a disorder.

[–] Dunstabzugshaubitze@feddit.org 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

emotional dysregulation is a common symptom of adhd, meaning intensity of (initial) emotional responses can go overboard.

Haven't any of y'all tried being incompetent?

I try to avoid caffeine, so I just am unhelpful instead.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Ok so you mean it affects your life negatively?

(The criteria for a disorder)

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

What is "it"? I can't trace that back to my comment.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

It is the adhd we are relating about

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Oh, I'm not diagnosed (I have a host of other things I would spend my nonexistant healthcare fund on first) but I have suspicions. It's not debilitating, because I've been doing it for a couple decades now, but it sure isn't ideal.

[–] halfeatenpotato@sh.itjust.works 1 points 15 hours ago

Just saving shit like this to show my brother how much he relates

[–] joulethief@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 21 hours ago

I stopped taking my prescription two weeks ago because some of its side effects felt very unpleasant. The first couple of days went great (with help from coffee and weed) but I'm already in doubt whether this was a good idea.
