They have removed all the books that aren't about straight, cis, white Christian men so who fucking cares. We'll build our own library with all the banned books and let anyone who wants to read them sign them out for free.

Fyi to all the people saying to tear down the Canadian side:

You're saying that we should demolish our own library because Trump is an idiot.
I know it feels satisfying now, but that is a brutally embarrassing self-own if we actually did something like that.

We need to make sure that they don't lock us out of our own library, though. If we have the ability to demolish our half, then we have the ability to allow our citizens into our half.

Old news. They closed this down when this all started, not yesterday. Get some real news, like the Epstein files or something actually news worthy.

Corruption don is late. Canadians have been avoiding the US for months now and probably won't go back until Corruption don is out of office.

[–] Fenrisulfir@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Corruption ~~don~~ is out of office. So ya, basically never.

The US is looking more and more like the DPRK.

So that's what she looks like when she's happy.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 19 points 2 days ago

Yeah, it was Ronald Reagan.

You're correct. Most recently He's mad about Ontario's ads criticizing tariffs and has called off trade talks. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/trump-trade-negotiations-tariffs-ontario-ad-9.6951469

Demolish the building on Canada's side.

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Replace it with a ballroom.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I wrote that initialy but Canada has too much style and self respect for that. Also, removing free knowledge from the people will please him more than you and i can imagine! So make it a place where americans can come to warm themselves and enjoy free soup while reading independent media. That will piss him off.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago

Here's a better idea, expand the building on the Canadian side, and house all the books of the US side (and even more), so that Canadians literally have no reason to go across the border.

Sends a stronger message IMO.

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

We can still build more libraries, too. Canada has style, but even our Prime Minister knows how to perform a Shawinigan Handshake when necessary, and that's part of our style. Elbows up.

Fucking republicans in congress, wake the fuck up.

[–] Phegan@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There is nothing to wake up from, they are complicit. They want this to happen. Trump is their God now and will support everything he does. If you are looking for republicans for help, you are looking in the wrong place.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

oh I don't expect them to. I just wish they would see where this is going even for them. I mean I would take joy in their future misery except my misery will likely be more unless dead.

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Canada should burn that library to the ground or just demo the part on our side. If it "long symbolized bilateral closeness" it's time to elbow up and burn the fucker down.

Or, cut a hole in the side, clear out everything on our side of the border, then put in razorwire.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 days ago (15 children)

Just demolish the Canadian half. Leave it a symbol of Trump's America, just like what he's done to the White House.

Fucking ridiculous. I used to cross in and out of Canada without a passport because it's fucking Canada!! I used to cross the Rio Grande back and forth too. Insane border policies need to be eliminated.

[–] rozodru@pie.andmc.ca 17 points 2 days ago (3 children)

used to be able to get on a plane without ID too. then a couple planes hit a couple towers and everyone decided you need id for everything.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I imagine the people who died in those two towers would be horrified at the things done in their name.

That sentence would probably incite violence against me in a large swathe of the US.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

It's so wild to me that 25 years later a generation that hadn't been born yet is memeing about the thing that changed everyone's lives seemingly overnight.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

You needed ID to get on a plane before the towers.

Or.... "Papers" one might say.
