On a recent post, there were a lot of comments, which said that they were missing the headphones on newer mobile devices.

How many actually use the headphone jack?

I ask, because I have one on my phone, since I really wanted one, but I rarely use it. Like Tops 1/Month.

I used to. Then I bought a new phone and forgot to check to see if it had one. It did not.

I use it a few times a month. I've got fantastic Bluetooth earbuds, but occasionally in zoom calls I'll switch from my PC to my phone on the fly, and the wired PC headset comes with me since it's got a nice microphone and noise cancelling. I can't imagine trying to switch quickly like this with Bluetooth!

I also tend to use wired headphones when commuting in busy areas (city train stations etc.) as Bluetooth falls apart in these conditions... dropouts piss me off. I listen to offline MP3s for the same reason.

I've gone without before - my last phone didn't have a headphone jack and I never bothered with the USBC dongle because it was a pain - but having the flexibility is more convenient.

I only upgrade every 4-5 years, so it makes it easier to find a newish phone that has a headphone jack. It frustrates me that new laptops still include headphone jacks, but most new phones don't. It's a stupid inconsistency.

Very very rarely. I have a cheap Bluetooth adapter in my car, and I don't regularly use headphones because everyone I care about is immediately annoyed when they see headphones over/in my ears.

I bought BT headphones to get rid of the cable when I'm outside. So now it's rare for me to use the headphone jack. Only when I use the cable headset for work or when I connect my phone to the stereo amp. So maybe once every other week.

Sunk into the Samsung ecosystem. When they stopped including a headphone jack on my phone I had to go and buy Bluetooth earbuds. I have a practically unused pair of Shure wired earbuds that are fantastic that I simply can't use.

I bought wireless headphones about 4 years ago and haven't used wired since. Even when playing through speakers, in my car, and all that I just use Bluetooth.

I used to, but now don't really care. Earbuds are really nice, except Bluetooth pairing is complete ass and you need to worry about it being charged.

[–] Ozymati@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Rarely, but I like knowing it's there if my headphones run out of battery and I need to join a meeting or make a call.

[–] Sacha@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Currently never, but that's because i dont go out much. If I went out more, even just for jogging. I would be extremely frustrated that my current phone doesn't have a jack. Currently I have to have to so everyone around me can hear my phone as I don't have a converted or a wireless headphone.

[–] DavidP@midwest.social 2 points 1 year ago

Never. Bluetooth headphones and connectivity in the car.

[–] Floey@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I use it sometimes, but used it regularly for music until I busted out an old iPod.

[–] shortwavesurfer@monero.town 2 points 1 year ago

I've used a headphone jack on my phone probably three times in the past two years. It is extremely uncommon for me to use it, and I would actually just prefer it not be there.

[–] Wooki@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yup use it with multiple devices, car and headphones. Bring it bloody back. No intention of buying another overpriced accessory plain and simple

it's the olny way i can use headphones right now since I don't have wireless headphones

Daily, I drive an 01 cherokee sport base model. This means I have a tape deck and fuck all else.

[–] LotrOrc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It's the only way I listen to music when I'm not in my car or in my house

I had to buy a converter to stick my headphones into to connect to my phone because it didn't have the jack. Which is really annoying because I have really nice headphones and I don't want to sacrifice my sound quality for shitty Bluetooth ones.

[–] FrostKing@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I use Bluetooth headphones every day, for most of the day. Despite that, there are times where i forget to charge them the night before, or something else goes wrong, and I use wired headphones.

If I got a phone without a headphone jack, I don't think it'd be much of a problem, until it is. I'd need it, and suddenly realized I don't have it.

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I use it to collect sand and little stones in my device.
But also to have a backup if my bluetooth in-ears get low on battery or i need to plug the phone to my old school amplifier.

[–] Kazumara@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

When I get a call at home while already wearing my wired headset I like to just plug it into the phone.

Since my current phone was bought used I had to compromise on some things, so I don't have a headphone jack anymore. I use a USB-C Adapter now. I use it for most phone calls, especially the longer ones with family. So probably for a few hours per month.

For quite a long time, until about 2021, I was still using wired headphones when on the go, but nowadays I'm addicted to noise cancelling, so that use case has moved to Bluetooth now. My protective headsets from work (both the over-ear and the in-ear set) also use Bluetooth.

I don't have one. When I did I used it every day.

Now I have a stupid dongle which I use nearly every day.

I've been using my wire headphones for over 10 years until recently. I've moved to Shockz, it's more convenient but the sound lacks bass.

[–] letsgocrazy@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I don't.

I'm a bit clumsy (ADHD) and having a cable attached to my body attached to a €1000 device is asking for trouble. I hate the cable getting tangled up, caught on things etc.
