Grades are pretty useless in my experience - working in "big pharma". It might be needed if you want to do phd work or fulfill entry requirements for certain studies.
Otherwise who cares?

Thanks, it’s hard coming from a country where grades are everything to Denmark where everyone is so chill haha (but it’s nice!). I’m hoping to go into consulting at some point, so I guess I’m a little nervous they’re more strict with grades, but other than that you’re right :)

When we hire we are much more interested in people who are able to figure stuff out by themselves than grades. Grades can be achieved by simply following the curriculum... but we need people who can write the curriculum.
Grades dont show that.

Your grades can be at the very top, but if you don’t match with the team you’ll likely just be underutilized and then a high grade doesn’t do much. That’s why employers in Denmark focus much more on your social skills and general behavior to see if you may fit in the work space. They’ll also value previous job experience a lot higher than any grade.

Getting a relevant student job at 5-10hr a week will be the biggest boost to your opportunities. My two-hour-a-week student helper job got me my first real job. Most jobs are found through network and not grades.
7 is average, so anything above that should be decent depending on how competitive your degree is. Just ask some danish students in your class and they likely have a good idea of how easy it is to get a job after your studies.
Its unlikely anyone will hire you only because your average is 12. They would likely rather hire someone with 8 average and 2 years of part time experience if they have the option (in my experience). I don't think anyone in my degree had above 11 average (engineering)

thanks! For sure, most Dane’s I’ve spoken to don’t care about their grades haha. I guess work experience is more important?
Coming from somewhere where a 7 would be considered a bad grade to Denmark has definitely been a shock haha

Good grades might help you land your first job, but won't be a requirement to join the job market at all. After your first job, no one will ever ask about your grades again.

If you're coming from the US, then the grades will likely be harder to attain - eg. 'C' (7) here is completely fine and average

A C in the US system is usually translated to 4 or 02 in the Danish system. It's different from a C in the European ECTS system.

7 is supposed to be above average, 4 is meant as furfills the requirments of the curriculum aka average, 02 is furfills the requirments, but with some missing points.

I can't say whether grades will be important to employers. I don't have any experience with that.
If you want to get into academia and research, you'll likely need somewhere between 10 and 12, the closer to 12 the better. Especially on your master's thesis.
So, consider those classmates of yours who don't care about grades as getting rid of competition early in the process. :)

At least at DTU (don't know other unis) it's a requirement to get at least 10 on your master's thesis if you want to do a PhD.

I think the people I know consider 12 and 10 good grades. Most people think 7 is okay and 4 is supposed to be average. However, I think Danish high school have made people believe that 7 is more like average. That is usually the grade you get, if the teacher don’t know how to grade you. - or at least it is what it feels like. I don’t think it is same at the university though.

As a former teacher at a university college I would definitely say 4 is average and 7 is above average (corresponding to the old 7 and 10). But students often see 7 as the old 7, not as the old 10.

The problem is perspective. If you consider failing an option, 4 is indeed average. But as a student who really doesn't want to consider failing as an acceptable outcome, 7 indeed becomes the new average grade.

12 and 10 I consider as a good grade. However, no employers will care about your grades. Most important is to pass the exam.

Out in "the real world" no one cares about your grades. You will never use them as such, and no one will probably ask you for them.

I would like to add my experience, not only did no one care about my grades, no one wanted to see my degree, not even for the first job !!! Denmark is highly trust-based society, if you say you have a degree, they won’t assume you made it up. Education is achievable for everyone, so having a degree is not something people make up.

Instead of anecdotal answers, maybe check out what the students in your courses score - then it’s easier to judge what is a good grade, at least in context of the specific course element.

My impression is that to most employers, relevant work experience is more important than good grades - of course, it depends on the field and the individual company. After finishing uni, I had both, but I've actually been questioned a bit about my good grades in interviews, because they wanted to make sure I wasn't anti-social or something 🙈 So I'd say good grades in some subjects and middle-good grades in others, along with relevant(ish) work experience is a winning combination.
