At some point in the last 4 years, I spontaneously evolved from the 11am friend into the 6am friend. I have no explanation for this.

[–] gigachad@sh.itjust.works 85 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I hate to tell you, but you're getting old.

[–] MrsDoyle@lemmy.world 35 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Nope, I'm old and have evolved into an 11am friend. I keep hearing about how old people are out of bed at sparrow fart and get stuff done, but it's never happened to me.

It primarily depends on if you have kids and their sleeping schedule as well as your job schedule. I wake up early AF, but I don't like it. I'm a natural night owl and hate super early mornings.

I seem to prefer to stay up late, AND to wake up early. What do? I'm thinking if we slow planetary rotation by just a little bit, it would give everyone more time. Shirley, there would be no adverse consequences to the environment. 28 hour days? Who's in?

I was you for a while but now when I feel myself getting wrapped into something that I know will keep me awake [mostly projects] I had to develop the habit of putting it off until the first thing in the morning. I actually think I end up spinning my wheels much, much less when I attack big problems first thing in the morning.

[–] variants@possumpat.io 3 points 11 months ago

Early morning projects or gaming time is the best. With a cup of coffee and silence

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

First, I’d like to sincerely thank you for the term “sparrow fart.”

Second, I believe the same is happening to me. I used to leap out of bed as soon as morning light hit the room. Now I’m finding unrequested motivation to complete tasks at night, and groan at the sound of my alarm.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 12 points 11 months ago

Lol, probably. But I'm not ready to admit that, so I'm going to blame the dogs who expect to go outside no later than 6:30 every day 😆

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago (3 children)

I effectively have been a morning person for years, but I still think my natural state is a night owl. Give me a vacation or even a long weekend and my sleeping schedule shifts to where it truly wants to be.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 4 points 11 months ago

Yeah, same. Though even after royally screwing up my sleep schedule, I still find myself up by 7 at the latest (even if I'm still tired).

Having dogs who expect to go outside at certain times probably contributes to that. They can be very persuasive lol.

Doppel?

I'm Ganger!

[–] silverdk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 months ago

Very much the same for me!

[–] frickineh@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Me too. It's easier to just stay on a schedule rather than ruin Monday (and sometimes Tuesday) by changing when I sleep on the weekends. Plus, my dog is also on a schedule and starts looking for snuggles at about 6.

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

And i turned from the 11:00 am friend to the 6:00pm friend

I never recovered from 2.5 years of 5 and dimes. But give it enough time it might cycle around again

[–] aniki@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 months ago

I turned working 3rd shift into working at 6am and I have zero regrets. I can BE a night person, EASILY, but I love that my sleep is now sun-bound, mostly.

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 44 points 11 months ago

Yeah, but can the 6am friends stay up all night browsing increasingly obscure websites, while reflecting on the poor state of the world and feeling helpless to change anything?

I think not.

[–] weariedfae@lemmy.world 34 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I am the 12 pm friend who booked a separate hotel and said I had plans in the morning so I can't meet them until 1 pm at the earliest.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 18 points 11 months ago (1 children)

"Plan to sleep is still plan"

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

Vacations are for rest afterall.

[–] KoalaUnknown@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

I am the friend who gets up with the 6 am friends, eats, and then goes back to sleep with the 11 am friends.

[–] PsychedSy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 11 months ago

If you find time to finish the remainder of the vodka before breakfast I'm with you.

[–] RecluseRamble@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 11 months ago

Morning sex is the best.

[–] sangriaferret@sh.itjust.works 16 points 11 months ago

I'm up at 6am because I haven't gone to bed yet.

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

Hi. I'm the 1pm friend. Let's go for some brunch.

[–] BallsandBayonets@lemmings.world 3 points 11 months ago

I'm lucky if I wake up by 1pm, then I gotta shower and take the dog out, best I can do is an early dinner at 4:30pm.

[–] jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 11 months ago

13 years of 2nd shift have permanently made me the 1pm friend.

[–] Dvixen@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They could have brought about world peace to, but they had to wake the 11am friend.

[–] Deepus@lemm.ee 5 points 11 months ago

Yeah! Fuck you 6am friends!

[–] doingthestuff@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

I'm the 3:30am friend. I'm tired by 11 am, I'm 7hrs into my shift. If you invite me to dinner at 7:30 that's a no. How about 4:30?

Repost

Edit: sorry guys, I had to. I've never been the first to comment repost before

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Is it? =(

I just scrolled back a bit and don't see it.

[–] Emerald@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

Lol I know I've seen this post a couple weeks ago. Nobody will care though, it's a good meme.

I'll take care of that.

[–] stepan@lemmy.cafe 4 points 11 months ago

I'm the 1pm friend. But since yesterday I don't feel that bad about it: https://appdot.net/@mdhughes/112847661796478542

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 3 points 11 months ago

I am the 11:30 am friend

[–] r@piefed.social 3 points 11 months ago

I used to be a 6am person. Nowadays I'm 8am.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 3 points 11 months ago

He does that while the 6am friends are already asleep.
