Yes this is weirdly confusing
But somehow extremely satisfying.
I don't get it. Is this just random or is there any thought or intention behind the relocation of certain countries?
The space has to fit the countries. It's random.
Missed lots of opportunities for offense here:
- Move Spain into Portugal, Spain becomes Andorra
- Attach Portugal to any Eastern European country
- Move all of Germany into Malloca, make the free land Austria with an Italy hat.
- Mark northern Belgium as "Wallonia" and the south as "Flanders"
- Make Greek islands Turkish
I'm not getting it.

But I thought there was maybe some reason behind why some countries where relocated and others weren't.
There's some reason. It's a horizontally flipped map of europe (except for Iceland, Spain and Portugal). The British Isles and Sardinia are scaled to resemble the rough layout of the "base" continent.

I agree. However I also got an reply from the creator of the map and he said it was just a joke. But there is more.
My hypothesis is, it's basically half assed. They tried to make a map of Europe, but inverted but didn't finish. Like why is Italy just plasterd over North Germany?
I think they tried something but couldn't be arsed to finish.
Yeah and France is bleeding out, but the western part is perfectly normal. The map doesn't hold up to scrutiny but I liked the little mindfuck and chuckle.
tbh I think the Italy part is kinda genius because it gives (at very first glance) the appearance of not only denmark, but a little bit of scandinavia is there. So there's not just "nothing" and the mind fills it out with scandinavia at first

I'm pretty sure Portugal and Spain are reversed, otherwise it's a great map !

But honestly, this map is really well done, at first glance it looks perfectly normal until one realises Italy has done a summersault into the north seas.
