Summary

Elon Musk is distancing himself from sweeping federal job cuts linked to DOGE, blaming agency heads—not DOGE—responsible for mass layoffs, including the announced 70,000 job cut at Veterans Affairs.

Despite claiming DOGE’s role as merely advisory, Musk admitted to mistakes in private meetings with GOP lawmakers and pledged to correct them.

Some cuts have already been reversed, with a Trump administration memo clarifying agencies are not required to fire probationary employees (new hires).

It just occurred to me that Trump might be Ellen Pao-ing Musk. He knows the tariffs and mass layoffs and deportations are going to crash the economy. He needs a fall guy when it happens.

Do all your unpopular, disastrous policies with an unpopular person standing in front of you, then blame everything on that person and send them packing.

Occam's razor would suggest they are both just that stupid. He has even more scrutiny for doing the same kind of illegal things he was doing behind the scenes at Twitter. Now, he has to deal with unions and contracts.

100% this. They are both fucking power hungry morons.

[–] 5wim@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hanlon's razor, to be precise !

[–] ghostrider2112@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

lol…for our fellow humans, yes, of course. for two with such history of malfeasance, no. They are both stupid, and acting in malice.

Ellen Pao-ing

Damn, it really says something about the demographic of Lemmy that nobody in your replies asked what this means.

(I also was on reddit ~10(?) years ago during this one particular controversy)

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 13 points 2 days ago

surely only his powdered koolaid snorting base would be bamboozled by this, right? right?!

[–] ShadowRam@fedia.io 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As if Trump is smart enough to plan ahead something like that .. LOL

[–] ghostrider2112@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I picture him getting a frantic call from the McDonald’s CEO with each new headline, explaining to him how this new stupid thing may affect his ability to get his favorite food. Trump is then forced to concede and reverse his latest stupid idea so he can continue getting his fix.

Who doesn't associate elon with donald though? They are like the more closely tied political duo in the world where every action is seen as one.

For Ellen Pao to work one of them would have had to remain relatively unknown and forgettable.

If anyone is going to benefit from the Ellen Pao it's people like peter thiel who are in the background while the loud duo is drawing all the attention and credit to themselves.

Vance is the 3 wheel in this weird throuple

[–] stardust@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah he blew his opportunity to take advantage of the other two playing the role of Ellen Pao by removing all doubt that he is the same by ramping the vocal participation and drawing increased publicity.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Yeah he needed to play the moderate. Instead the dumbass yelled at Zelinsky and picked a fight with the pope over catholic theology.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

More like other way around, musk has trump wrapped around his finger at the moment

[–] match@pawb.social 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i don't think trump knows this is the plan, but it is the plan. it's very convenient having a billionaire whose visa can be revoked

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Supposedly he was naturalized in 2002. He's not here on a visa.

I mean, Trump now apparently can do whatever now, so I guess he could just deport him. But not legally or by revoking a visa.
