Maybe we just need to ban all social media for the last 2 weeks leading up to an election, similar to how many countries ban publishing polls in the final stretch before an election.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 13 points 5 days ago

I might be wrong, but the UK I believe has laws against the media talking about elections like the day before and day of polling.

That's just blanket censorship, breaking up social media companies and forcing their federation, shut down is a better deal imo.

Simply banning mass forms of communication is backwards and will obviously lead to accusations of rigging for the incumbent party.

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

That only works if they're from that country

[–] Paragone@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Maybe we need to find the spine to auto-lock/auto-ban all such enemy-agent bots.

WELL past-time we did-so.

Canada should ban twatter. It's a Nazi disinformation and propaganda platform anyways...

[–] PointyReality@lemmy.world 39 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Those that still use X is a nazi in my book.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

AOC... Nazi
Bernie Sanders... Nazi

Can the community help me name some other surprising Nazis?

[–] PointyReality@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

Even when statistical data supports these huge sweeping statements there will always be outliers but they will be few.

https://news.berkeley.edu/2025/02/13/study-finds-persistent-spike-in-hate-speech-on-x/#%3A%7E%3Atext=A+new+analysis+has+found%2Cpledge+to+reduce+bot+activity.

Given Leon’s blatant support of the Nazi’s. Then I believe the saying goes “If the shoe fits”.

[–] zecg@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

That's quite a prolapsed opinion

[–] shish_mish@lemmy.world 30 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They should shut it down, at least during elections but really just for good would be perfect.

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 13 points 5 days ago

Ban it forever. It’s a common pattern from them

[–] Grizzlyboy@lemm.ee 16 points 5 days ago

Just ban the site. Everyone should be banning American social networks.

You need to block X and musk from your country before any election. He will start paying your voters to vote the way he wishes.

[–] FilthyHookerSpit@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

They should ban it. And if people still try to go on, hopefully those smart enough to use VPNs are smart enough to see through the ruse

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

Ban X lmao governments are goofy as fuck

[–] SSNs4evr@leminal.space 6 points 4 days ago

I'd sure love to see Canada and the UK simply shut X down within their borders. There were some grumbling awhilemago, in the UK Parliament of naming Musk as an extremist, based on his ability to not only buy influence, but his ability through X to promote or censor speech as he likes, influencing elections, or even overthrowing governments.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Just forbid X and filter out their IP range. Problem solved.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 13 points 5 days ago

it's easier to run the bots from the inside, ain't it, muskrat?

Who uses twitter?

[–] AwkwardBroccolli@lemmy.ml 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Chinese or American bots? There is a lot of psyops involved.

[–] KittyKalledKarma@slrpnk.net 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Mostly American and some Indian lol. Lots of liberals left Twitter anyways so they're being targeted on different platforms, but Facebook and X are breeding grounds for astroturfed pro American/ Alberta separatist bullshit.

All the convoy types as you would expect are eating up and regurgitating anything remotely negative.

[–] AwkwardBroccolli@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

I see a lot of Russian and Chinese bots as well in Shitter(previously Twitter).

[–] 5trong5tyle@lemm.ee 4 points 5 days ago

Wait, there's still people on twitter? I left when Phony Stark took over, the writing was on the wall at that point.
