Thanks, I hate it

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 64 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

wage loss detected, sabotage mode engaged.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 43 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The day an automated system reduces my pay for socializing all of 3 seconds to myself is the day I begin welding steel plates to a bulldozer and go for a drive through upper mansgemt offices.

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

seriously i'd rather see it all burned down and my own bones charred to ash than suffer such a condition to persist. fuck absolutely every thing and every PERSON about this.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

unfortunately you won't see this. they don't make these changes abruptly. they come very slowly and gradually that by the time the prediction has come true you won't even be in the workforce, and those who are won't be old enough to remember a time where your payment didn't get docked for sighing a little too loud because it's technically a social signal so you engaged in unapproved socializing on company hours.

i mean that day should really have come a while ago, and it seems pretty evident that A LOT of people just straight up do not have a point at which they'll do anything more radical than complain on facebook.

literally no food in stores, and you're actively starving? oh well nothing to be done about this, i voted for the Leopards Eating People's Faces party and they say they're doing all they can to help me..

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 57 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

reminds me of the old greentext that was like "please drink a mtn dew verification can to continue"

i really hope something happens soon to prevent this future.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 38 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I mean, quality of life has gone up almost everywhere in the world (warzones being the exception ofcourse). The issue is just that the class divide is also going up everywhere.

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 30 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

quality of life has gone up almost everywhere in the world

That's going to age like milk in a hot car in America come July.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

i did say "almost" :D i was specifically thinking of the US when i wrote that.

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

You've never had a car milkshake?

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

They did say "almost".

[–] JimmyMcGill@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago

If the quality of life of poor people is 1% better while for rich people it’s 100000% better, then we still need to get some guillotines out in the streets

Just because it’s “better” doesn’t mean it’s fair or that it shouldn’t be orders of magnitude better

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What is "quality of life"? I would argue it hasn't really gone up a great deal since the 90s.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 28 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

If you live in a very privileged country then maybe that is your experience. The rest of the world however has only barely started catching up in terms of food security. None the less the situation is soooo much better than it was 30 years ago. Its still not good by any means, but to say that it hasnt gone up is absurd.

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, alright, fair enough, food security I think can legitimately be counted as objective quality of life

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 27 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (4 children)

I mean, I've experienced something similar at work, except not automated.

And the amount of talking was literally just us asking each other for help. For example to help with moving a loaded pallet using a pallet jack as this was in a freezer, and the floor had frost on it (I alone would just "walk" in the same spot trying to pull or push it).
"The client has complained they heard talking, so please be quiet." (the client being a supermarket chain, or in this case, their representative)
Disregarding the manager could result in a negative point. The negative point would reduce you to minimum wage for that day.

This was in the storage area of a supermarket. A closed supermarket. It couldn't bother a single soul.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

Jesus Christ

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

The idea that your wage can be reduced as a minor penalty is atrocious

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

I hope that representative found a great new job they love where their great failure respecting people can no longer hurt anyone

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

the fact that people like that manage to avoid having terrible terrible things done to them is a testament to the mental fortitude of the average worker

[–] jenesaisquoi@feddit.org 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I mean you could get yourselves some of those regulations the Europeans seem to like to make this illegal. But that would be communism so you won't.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

There's only one thing worse the out of control capitalism, and that's regulated and fair capitalism.

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah sure, we're absolutely miserable here in Europe compared to the US. Please don't come here.

Reminds me of the 4chan green text about playing Xbox and having to drink mountain dew or something idr it exactly

[–] Objection@lemmy.ml 34 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] DogWater@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

That's the one hahaha

[–] lime@feddit.nu 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

and that was, in turn, based on a patent filed by mcdonalds for smart tvs to show ads you had to interact with. "say 'mcdonalds' to continue watching".

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

you have to stand up for it too I think

[–] lime@feddit.nu 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

idk if that was technically part of it but the pictures in the application definitely had a person jump up and scream the name.

actually I'll go look it up

Edit: huh, it's not a mcdonalds patent at all, it's filed by sony: https://patents.google.com/patent/US8246454B2/en

but the picture definitely says mcdonalds

I was in a company town hall meeting where the C-level executives were making announcements and circle jerking each other with compliments on their success. At one point, the CEO was remarking how innovative they were pivoting the software from a standalone to a SaaS. Truly enlightened times to have such visionaries...

Verification cans

[–] obinice@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

At least the robots on the packing line will be alive, the rest of us - as no longer needed labour - will be dead, haha.

[–] JimmyMcGill@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Nah you will be kept poor enough to not be able to rebel and rich enough to have something (to lose) and be able to participate in capitalism.

Capitalism needs workers to exploit, even once all the robots are built. In the end it’s people that have to do the labor and that must pay the billionaires next space shuttle

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Reminds me of Buying Time, a far-future dystopia comic based around the idea that one needs to spend social credits in order to talk to people (I think for a certain length of time). Those who are credit poor are effectively shut out of society.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Welcome to Costco, I love you.
