He'll cancel it as soon as someone explains to him it's not a physical dome and he can't "go see it."

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 4 points 19 hours ago

Tell him it's already installed, they just made it clear for clarity reasons.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 65 points 1 day ago (1 children)

built over the next three years

Fucking LOL!!

It'll take that long to get the first draft of the requirements document for this stupid thing.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 32 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yeah, given Trump's timelines on building the wall, I think we can safely expect this to never be finished. This will be yet another indefinite Republican drain on American tax dollars.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

Ah, but it will funnel said taxpayer's money into the right cronies' pockets.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's one of those things that sounds great, but requires a monumental effort to build and this administration lacks any kind of competence to make it happen.

Hegseth said we couldn't even block hypersonic missiles so China could sink our entire fleet in minutes, yet thinks we will not only be able to build a defense system well enough to block them but block them from hitting all of the U.S. and Canada in 3 years, even from space. Who could possibly believe that?

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah, upgrading basic government accounting software can take longer than that.

[–] tartarin@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In fact, they don't care about Canada as long as the nuclear weapons detonate far enough from the border.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Ah so Mexico and the Caribbean need protection as well then.

[–] tartarin@lemm.ee 1 points 20 hours ago

Not really since they aren't on the shortest path of Russian missiles to the USA.

[–] limer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

Many will believe it; the nay sayers will be ignored by the propaganda

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The anti-nuclear weapon shield we all agreed not to develop because it nullifies the nuclear deterrent, and makes nuclear war inevitable?

That shield?

[–] TheMightyCat@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

I mean the US has fielded and expanded GBI for years now and no nuclear war has broken out.

As an EU citizen hearing daily how putin threatens to kill us all I'm glad we are investing into missile defense aswell, instead of our lives being in the hands of a madman.

[–] Zerlyna@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (3 children)

And how do we pay for this?

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 5 points 22 hours ago

Canada is paying for it with tariffs

[–] assembly@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You see…we cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans and then…a tariff happens…and then Mexico pays for it?

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

You forgot the really important part: deporting "immigrants".

The only country threatening Canada is America. This dome is useless to us, and i'm willing to bet he's straight up lying about us being interested in it.

Someone hasn't watched enough mobster movies.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah so Canada can prove that they want to be our friend and buy it.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Canada does not want to be America's friend right now.

[–] sylver_dragon@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So, who's got the inside track on which company is paying the largest bribe for the contract? If tax dollars are going to be diverted to line Trump's pockets, we might as well catch some of that money by riding the stock bump when the contract is announced. Maybe get some puts on the stock if we manage to elect a less corrupt President in four years.

Surprise! Musk is ready to step in, because they will tailor the requirements to him, and he lies about everything anyway so no other bidders would even come close.

[–] kruhmaster@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago

This is some Mr. Burns-type shit

[–] Darkonion@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

For just $1 billion down payment, I will build it in 2 years for half of that. I pinky promise.

[–] Envy@fedia.io 6 points 1 day ago

And the houthis and hamas are gonna pay for it!

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

I fucking hate Axios. Their format sucks, and they don't even explain what this is. It's related to the one in Israel, but Canada wants to be covered somehow?

[–] Hello_there@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago

More like 175 trillion ?
