For sale: wedding dress, never worn.

[–] smee@poeng.link 3 points 1 day ago

Now with 100% less dead babies compared to new shoes!

I mean, that'll only let you know their dress size when they were married - which may have been years ago.

So not too different to Tinder bio photos.

[–] ziggurat@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

My wife has the same size, I managed to go up in weight between buying my wedding suit and us getting married.

Yes she's an amazing cook

I imagine that there are a lot of cases where women would sell their wedding dress without being divorced.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 42 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If they're selling their dress they'll probably be naked.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 12 points 2 days ago

Duh. I've seen documentaries!

This is the case for someone I know. One of her friends had a beautiful wedding dress that she didn't want to go to waste, so she just gifted it to her as an early wedding present. After her wedding, she did the same, passing it on. No telling where that dress is now, but I like to imagine it's still traveling the world, one wedding at a time. Also, both this woman and her friend have been married to their respective partners for over a decade, so I assume it's at least going adequately, if not well.

If each time they shorten a bit here, add more sequins there, is it still the same dress (of theseus)?

Dress of Theseus is now one of my new favorite tropes. Thank you.

Also, I did not know wedding dresses sometimes have sequins. When you mentioned them, I imagined something like a cabaret dress. Much to my dismay, I discovered that they're tastefully done when I looked it up. Still, if you get invited to a wedding with an outrageously sequined dress, see if you can get me on the list.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I bet you that dress would light up under a black light.

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do people have sex in their wedding dresses? That never occurred to me.

[–] xylol@leminal.space 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What else is it for, that's why its white

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's pretty hilarious. On a serious note, I imagine people wouldn't want to take the risk of having sex in the dress before the ceremony. Afterward, getting the dress off to replace it with some exotic, strappy, crazy lingerie seems like a better idea to me. Still, whatever floats their goat, I guess.

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A lot of brides change before the wedding reception. The big poofy thing is often just for the ceremony.

That's a really good point. I forgot that wedding days are structured that way. Still, it doesn't seem like a good idea to have sex in one of those dresses for other reasons. If some people like that, more power to them.

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Note however that this dress was gifted as a sentimental wedding present to a friend. I would suppose the ones listed on Facebook marketplace are somewhat differently motivated.

You're probably right, but my uninformed, blind optimism tells me that they're selling it to guage demand. Then they send the money back as a wedding gift to help the couple start a new life. I have zero evidence for this, but that's my head cannon.

[–] Schorsch@feddit.org 5 points 2 days ago

Without being divorced... yet!

[–] teslasaur@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Holy shit. I laughed so loud i woke the dog.

Craigslist got rid of the personal ad spaces, so I just sell my body on the For Sale>Free section. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Time to start selling mirrors.

Alternative suggestion: Set up a local "Men Seeking Females" group so they can filter you right out.

Yes. You read that right.

(oh, and the above is not directed at you, @Stamets. But this belongs in c/menandfemales)

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Are you pretending the language "females" & "males" is abnormal in classifieds, personals, & marketplaces?

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If I'm not mistaken, it seems like it's more a stereotype of men that refer to themselves as men but women as females.

Idk, I could be wrong - but that's how I'm seeing it. The idea also invokes the thought of a particular type of incel.

[–] BenLeMan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Exactly, thank you. And no one is pretending anything here.

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com -1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The OP's picture has the word "men" somewhere? Seems like a joke.

The "stereotype" seems a bit of a reach & makes about as much sense as a stereotype of carrying keys. Like "carrying keys is such classic incel behavior" or "using females is incel speak": sure, if you ignore their regularity by anyone anywhere else. Seems more a failure of general observation that demands a bit of pretense to overlook & speaks volumes more about the type of person who'd repeat such ideas.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

No, and I am strictly dictating this to you — casually referring to women as if they're simply females of reproductive age is the biggest self report you can output. If you want women to immediately distrust you, speak like this.

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Here's an example quoting a story in the news:

“What if I would have been armed,” she said. “You’re breaking in. What am I supposed to think? My initial thought was we were being robbed—that my daughters, being females, were being kidnapped. You have guns pointed in our faces. Can you just reprogram yourself and see us as humans, as women? A little bit of mercy. […]"

Is that mother committing "the biggest self report" by referring to her daughters as females or are you just wrong? Examples like this abound in nonsexist language.

Uncritically treating the noun female like a dirty word & going after any use of it is ironically misogynist in effect despite intent to counteract misogyny. Feminism deserves better than moronic language policing that promotes sexism.

men referring to themselves as men but women as females

Oh, my mistake — I didn't realize I was dealing with an American. This is where I refer to 'literacy below a 3rd grade level' and how you should try to stay on topic.

Edit: To further my point — she is not casually referring to her daughters as simply being females of reproductive age. She's pointing it out because it's a very clear factor in the threatening circumstance they were in.

This is in no way, shape or form, the same thing as an incel referring to a woman as a female and themselves as a man.

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

What are you quoting and what men/males are you referring to?

An example of a male referring to female humans as females would indicate misogyny to you. But an example of woman clearly using the word inoffensively without solicitation proves nothing?

No conceivable possibility can contradict your position: you're confirmation bias personified.

Maybe explain what you'd expect to show that men can refer to older male humans and female (in the context of humans) can refer to female humans of any age?

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am quoting my comment, you trog. I am literally telling you to pay attention to the thread.

You're intentionally obtuse and misrepresenting 'evidence', evidence that couldn't be further from the discussion. A mother discussing males being a threat to females is in no way the same thing as a wannabe fascist virgin only referring to women as 'females' because they aren't anything other than something to be owned and fucked.

Hell, you can be an incel and refer to men and women as male and female. There is context here that's important, something you willfully ignore because it directly exposes how disngenuous your argument is.

Every further argument and retort from this point on will be met with ad hominem, because you will either recognize what I'm saying or do not deserve to be treated with respect.

See, you evidently accept the noun female for female humans isn't itself sexist, because context is necessary: point proven.

Then there's that assumption. How do you know they're a "a wannabe fascist virgin only referring to women as ‘females’" merely from seeing someone write female as a noun in a frivolous comment? You're reading a tremendous amount into a few words & going after anyone over them. Where's your context to support that?

Your checklist seems to be: could be male ✔️ used female as a noun referring to humans ✔️, so attack.

There is context here that’s important

Exactly.

you willfully ignore

I was saying the same about you from the beginning, friend. Are you projecting?

ad hominem

That just confirms your irrationality. You think the words of an irrational person hurt anyone here?

I'm not continuing this. Arguing for men who would use the term interchangeably with bitches is fucking baffling. I sincerely hope for your sake that you're autistic — because the other explanations for your defense of this topic are bad. They are either; you are an incel (derogatory) or you are a very stupid woman.

They may not be. Without firm context, you don't know, which even you admitted: welcome to the point.

autistic

I admire the way autists often follow rules/logic with integrity, a severe shortcoming in some neurotypicals.

the other explanations

They are either; you are an incel (derogatory) or you are a very stupid woman.

You left out the simplest explanation: you're wrong.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

No, you're applying blind empathy to people who are just misogynistic. Now I'm sure of it, you're a limp dicked incel that's upset he doesn't get a free pass to hate women.

I didn't realize the debatelords were leaving Reddit, that's a really bad thing — please go back.
