the sub is mostly run by russian shills, or russian propagandist mods. they often have to reorientate thier position multiple times to combat sudden changes thier current events, like with luigi, trump;s tariffs ruining farming businesses.

I'm from a very conservative state. They are very proud of and use public land, sometimes daily just like I do. The conservatives I know are not happy about this at all!

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 124 points 1 week ago (6 children)

That’s very strange. If they value public land so highly, why would they back the party that always aims to privatise everything?

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

they dont believe it will actually happen, and thinks trump is joking. this time he wasnt joking.

[–] NKBTN@feddit.uk 83 points 1 week ago (29 children)

Most conservatives aren't really economically conservative. They too want police, schools, fire dept, infrastructure etc. to be well funded. There's just also a nebulous idea that "government wastes money" and they don't want their taxes taken.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

they also been taught to not look any further, than what fox/right wing media tells them.

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago (5 children)

My conservative former friend said he would never vote for any tax for any reason.

Crazy, but true. No he didnt want anything well funded.

One of the rallying cries of the Republican party that persuaded so many over the decades has always been fiscal responsibility and tax cuts. They have spent decades persuading voters that paying taxes is a terrible thing. They have claimed that bureaucracy is slow and wasteful. That the taxes people paid have been misappropriated. They have corrupted one of the most important things that a citizen can do for its nation. Pay taxes.

Paying taxes should be seen as a prideful act. This small action provides us with innumerable benefits that every single one of us benefits from.

The voting public has been lied to in an attempt to convince them they don't receive anything from the taxes they pay. This, as most people should recognize, is a falsehood. From the roads we drive on, the water we drink, and the sewage that gets washed away to the security net that allows millions of Americans to retire every year. Taxes are the foundation that has allowed us to become the strong and comfortable nation that we are.

Taxes are the reason we have such a strong military that many Republicans idolize (while many others denounce.) Taxes are the reason we almost every child in this country has at least a cursory education. Taxes are the reason so many can pursue the careers that keep us safe and healthy, like every single doctor, nurse, and everyone else that helps and support them. Taxes are the reason your community has playgrounds for your children. Taxes are the reason so many farmers even have an income at all.

they been brainwashed that tax cuts to corporations are the only one that matters, because it will give them jobs. i visited r/con early on in his 1st term, it was funny how they mentally gymanstically justify it.

and that the middleclass- well off people not rich think they are getting a deal by having no income taxes in states like nevada, so some moved there and it turns out it has shit education and medical facilities,or none at all(i once followed a poc youtuber that did this) and next to no cultural community according to your race. oh at the same time railing on california, because of its "woke" policies, but your business depends on californias going to your stupid channel.

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I totally agree with you. Im just sharing one ill-informed viewpoint i have seen personally.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Crazy, but true. No he didnt want anything well funded.

That's what he says... But does he drive on public roads? Does he use bridges? Does his residence have access to clean water and a functioning sewer? Etc. etc.

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Absolutely he did. And he didnt want to pay for it and refused to vote for the taxes to support them.

He also bought an old truck that got 12 mpg and complained about gas prices from then on.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

Conservatives are freeloaders. It's what they don't think social can't work.

They know they wouldn't contribute. They know they would exploit it.

[–] NKBTN@feddit.uk 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

There are some peculiar branches of libertarian thinkers (Stephen Molyneux being a prime example) that think nothing should be government/tax funded, up to and including e.g. roads. He reasons private companies should build them, and make them all toll roads, or find some other way to recoup the costs.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

they experimentated that in a small town, they abandoned it when they couldnt afford the roads, trash cleanups,,,etc. and then another one was they ran out by black bears.

They're like the "no take, only throw" dog except for taxing and spending.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It comes down to a fundamental lack of empathy. It's "why should I pay for schools if I don't have any kids" writ large.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

“why should I pay for schools if I don’t have any kids”

so that illiterate gangs don't break into your house to steal your shit or kidnap you.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They're the kind of people that jerk off to the idea of shooting a home invader

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

i found out the term is ammosexual, these types are in love with thier guns and love to shoot people someday.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 9 points 1 week ago

That's a big part of it. There's also a lot of ignorance and stupidity.

They'll be like "I don't want government in health care" but also want Medicare and Medicaid.

[–] BreakerSwitch@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Honestly it's a pretty clever scam by conservatives. Run on a platform of big government is inept, wasting your money, we need to reduce spending and reduce taxes! Once in office, do nothing. Sabotage functional government. Obstruct long term projects. Now you have things to point to as proof that big government is bad and does nothing, because you were the big government and made sure nothing happens.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

also having a propaganda platform that keeps the message going constantly, or else the voters will get bored or start to realize something else.

[–] Uruanna@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Yup, standard fascist procedure. All the Nazi parties in Europe want to be elected to the European Parliament with the very publicly expressed goal of breaking it from the inside to prove that European unity and globalism don't work.

Tribalism and intentionally underfunded education, plus propaganda to push back on whatever independent thoughts may start to creep in.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If they value public land so highly, why would they back the party that always aims to privatise everything?

Fash are dumb enough to think that they'll be the ones benefiting.

"he was only supposed to sell off national parks in the blue states" 😥

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Abject stupidity. Usually.

[–] IsThisAnAI@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Maybe because even in a sane world single issue voters don't actually exist?

Such a terrible framing.

I haven't looked at the sub in a bit but that sub is actually becoming conservative again. That is to say there are actual conservative minded liberals advocating for the kinds of policy the GOP was pushing in the 1990s not the neofascism of the Trump era.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 76 points 1 week ago

And yet nearly every single one of them will continue to vote Republican in every election for the rest of their lives.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Liberal fascism has always been a major force behind regular fascism.

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I would welcome that return to reality even if not sense.
