Some of the 800 National Guard members deployed by President Donald Trump began arriving in the nation’s capital on Tuesday, ramping up after the White House ordered federal forces to take over the city’s police department and reduce crime in what the president called — without substantiation — a lawless city.

He'll do anything to distract from the Epstein files.
Bibi taught him well.
Then again, his predecessors did the same.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

This isn't a fucking distraction, this is the fascist takeover of our nation's capital for fuck sake.

This is a test case for the future of every blue city in this country.

We need to keep the Epstein shit in the news, but not everything is a meaningless distraction from it.

This is very very very bad.

Army national guard sent to protect traitor felon rapist so that he can wipe his ass with the constitution the literal document the national guard swore to protect

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 208 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It is a lawless city though. The other day there was a pedophile on top of the white house and he’s still there

[–] krigo666@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You deserve a gazillion upvotes.

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

For copying the post from earlier today?

[–] three@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

I'm narwhalling my bacon with two broken arms!

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 29 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This is a stain on the armed forces. Anyone in the Guard should be fucking embarrassed to admit what they do for a living.

That also goes for any other member of a military organization or agency that complies with orders like this.

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 48 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Nazi. They are called Nazis. Also, Trump fucked a child and he's covering it up in the most obvious way.

[–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 14 points 1 day ago

i think more than one tbh, but yeah

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 71 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't let this distract you from Epstein.

[–] AllHailTheSheep@sh.itjust.works 75 points 1 day ago (1 children)

no actually. don't let Epstein distract you from the fact that this is quite literally a fascist takeover of our government. yes, trump is a pedophile, but weve known this for years, there is no new information from the Epstein files regarding trump. the time to be angry about him being a pedophile was years ago, the time to be angry at a con man organizing a fascist takeover of the seat of our federal government is now.

[–] medicsofanarchy@lemmy.world 48 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm allowed to be angry about two things, so I'm good.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Yeah which is why this isn't a fucking distraction and it's getting tiresome seeing it in the comments of very fucking serious shit.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

For real. The end result and what we want is the same, and it's guided by much more than these two things. All of you that are pushing this "only talk about one thing" narrative either need to reevaluate the way you're thinking, and if not, fuck off.

[–] AllHailTheSheep@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

everyone in the epstein files should rot in a cell until the end of time. but that will never ever happen if people don't start focusing on the more pressing things, like the takeover of our federal government. why would those files change anything right now? we know many people in power are pedophiles, and it's pretty common that some big name gets discovered as a pedo and absolutely nothing changes. they rarely even lose their job. why would that change now?

y'all are chasing those files without realizing it's a carrot on a stick, a tantalizing taste of actual change that will never have any effect until the other more pressing issues with our government are resolved.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

One of those things is only making half of the country angry.

One of those is making 80% of the country angry.

Both.

And oath breakers:

I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Below is specifically the oath of office for national guard, which includes the lines I've put in bold...

I, (First, Middle, Last Name) do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State (Commonwealth, District, Territory) of against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the Governor of the State (Commonwealth, District, Territory) of ,

that I make this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the Office of (Grade) in the Army/Air National Guard of the State (Commonwealth, District, Territory) of upon which I am about to enter, so help me God.

Edit: I'm not defending the national guard soldiers, but they DO answer directly to the president as per their oath

[–] leftytighty@slrpnk.net 5 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

If following presidential orders to do things that violate the Condition is ok, why can't you disregard the president's orders and adhere to the Constitution?

What makes one right and the other wrong?

[–] Ithral@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 hours ago

You can disregard unlawful orders, in fact it's expected of service members to do so. But the reality is they are just worried about bills like everyone else so they will fall in line since doing the right thing is hard.

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

I don't have an answer, just showing that the wording of the national guard's oath, being slightly different from the rest of the military, makes this a little more complicated than it should be

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Amyone military that doesn't refuse this order, they are a fucking traitor. I don't care what the reason.

Agreed.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (2 children)

These guardsmen should just take over the Whitehouse and remove Trump. Would be better for them and America.

[–] puppinstuff@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

Shh spoilers

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 1 day ago

We'd get the Taliban/daesh (The Base) coup version, rather than actual freedom fighting revolutionaries, because people are more scared of pinks than Nat soc

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago

King Donny doesn’t want to see the poors on the streets. King Donny wants to rape your children.

Potential murders arrived*

any politician, who wants to be a presidential candidate, needs to declare that when it's over, they will all be declared traitors for violating their duties.

at best it might encourage more deserters. at worse it will show that they have guts.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Is this something he can legally do in DC, but not other cities?

Testing the waters. Unchecked, these fascists will one day knock on your door. Decide now how you wish to answer them.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 15 points 1 day ago

Sort of. It's at least much much easier because DC is under the jurisdiction of Congress. The Home Rule Act allows 30 days with congressional notification. There's no other governance structure to fight against.

If there was some real emergency and not just "Stop Talking About Epstein" in other parts of the country, the President can likely nationalize the local NG and direct them to go places and do things, but the governor and state legislature, and the state's Congresspeople can push back. DC has none of those (sorry Eleanor Holmes Norton, not vote, no count).

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 4 points 1 day ago

Specifically, yes, though it is also specified for emergency use and is limited to thirty days. So basically he's just doing whatever the fuck he wants and nobody with authority or means is stopping him. These are unlawful orders being followed by FUCKING COWARDS.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

This is to secure Washington for control and bigger takeovers to come
