Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

One way or another, I will die a Canadian.

In California here, any chance youre looking for a new province or three?

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

California has more people than all of Canada. It's not impossible that California via it's population, could take control of Canadian elections if they were to join Canada.

I wonder what thought experiments people have already done on this issue(in not educated enough for them sadly. But i would totally listen to this radio play)

California has more people than all of Canada.

So does Metro Tokyo.

It's not impossible that California via it's population, could take control of Canadian elections if they were to join Canada.

I would assume that, in the case that the Western States joined Canada, anyone who would be opposed to things like gun control and not lynching the "queers" would leave those provinces before joining.

Well, if they were to gradually annex and canadianize down the coast, I'm sure we could hold out for a few years.

Or, hey, mexico... Take us back? Please?

Just make Cascadia happen.

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I'm not really interested in separation from Canada myself as much as I like the idea of a Cascadia

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago

That's also a very interesting thought experiment

Are you willing to give up your rights and swear loyalty to the crown?

They mean your health insurance

Not having freedom of speech/religion (the way Americans view them) is usually a deal breaker.

Yeah that's why i want to leave.

You two just give us a call if you want even more social security. Love from the EU.

I'll quote an American to respond to that .....

(You can take my country) FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!

*(my hands will be cold any way .... it's always a bit chilly up here) *

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Climate change... Er I mean climate alterations (?) would like to have a word with you.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Funny enough ... that was how the phrase "climate change" came about in the headlines and common speak. Scientists were using the phrase "global warming" at first but governments and corporations wanted a less frightening term to soften the news to the public and not make things so urgent ..... so they came up with "climate change"

I hope it’s ok to add a link to the Reddit post. I read the comments and this piqued my interest about being prepared and skilled on drone flying, 3D printing etc. Any suggestions or interested talking more about this? Not sure if we have a community for this.

Reddit comment thread

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That link is to apple store, not reddit. But since you (accidentally?) linked a FPV drone simulator (which looks not great based on the reviews?), I'll throw out a plug for Liftoff (available on Steam) instead, it's what actual soldiers in Ukraine train with. It's that good.

[–] bowreality@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago

Oops sorry fixed that link! Thanks for the alternative. I’ll take a look but I don’t have steam.

"Why don't you just join our Country? You become the 51st state, and you get it [The Golden Dome] for free."

Because I don't want to give up the things that matter to me (public health care, an actual education, a culture that isn't "shoot whatever moves", etc.) in favour of a science fiction concept that will never actually work?

[–] Amuletta@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

What is this "golden dome" anyway? If he's deploying the military to cities in his own country, who is left for international defense?

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 4 points 3 weeks ago

It's Reagan's "Star Wars" system reimagined for Trump's toddler brain, named after Israel's "Iron Dome" but named for Trump's shitty taste in decor.

Picture a super-fragile shell of satellites and anti-missile missiles that will supposedly shoot down any ICBMs launched at the USA. Now picture someone releasing a bucket of ball bearings into the orbits these satellites would inhabit, rendering them useless and incapable. Compare the cost, too, of launching all those satellites vs. launching a few buckets of ball bearings.

It's one of the most hilariously inept pieces of garbage government policy ever created. At least they were smart enough to wind down talk on "Star Wars".
