A former Wyoming library director who was fired amid an uproar over books with sexual content and LGBTQ+ themes that some people complained were inappropriate for youngsters and who sought their removal from youth shelves will be paid $700,000 after settling a lawsuit.

Terri Lesley was fired as the library system director in northeastern Wyoming's Campbell County in 2023, two years into the book dispute at the library in Gillette. Lesley sued last spring over her termination and reached the settlement with county officials Wednesday. She had been the director since 2012 and with the library 27 years, Wyoming Public Radio reported.

"I do feel vindicated. It's been a rough road, but I will never regret standing up for the First Amendment," Lesley said.

That doesn't feel like a lot of money but public library directors aren't paid very well so that's likely more than 10 years of salary.

What about her pension.she served 27 years and must have been close.

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago

Most people don't have pensions. I am not sure if public librarians do.

This is some much needed good news to read. 💜

I know Terri's life has been completely uprooted because of all of this and so I wish her the best as she moves forward.

I wish the US army successfully built the gay bomb so that it could be set off in the US and non-violently eliminate conservatives and right wingers. Better to be surrounded by raving homosexuals than raging Nazis

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Or would it just make a lot of self-hating gay people?

[–] Siegehammer85@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They already hate other gays so it doesn't change anything except now they hate themselves too 🤷‍♂️

If you can't beat em, BANKRUPT THEM!

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

$700k, hell even $700M won't bankrupt them. The worst parts of society are funded by the people with the most money.

And the people with the money orchestrating this culture war won't be paying a dime of that. Campbell County taxpayers will.

ETA: I'm not arguing against the settlement. I'm arguing against the billionaires that FA but never have to FO.
